Essentially the same, but psychologically different

I think I had an easier time on the right screen. The individual blocks are clearly defined, and when you are in motion the parallel lines become murky. I remember baby stepping the left screen.

On the left side, you don't have to be accurate with the last jump as it's safe after the double column whereas on the right screen, there's a pit you have to avoid.

On the left one, you can still wall jump back to safety. More info: https://mariowiki.com/Wall_Jump

Via above link: "For example, in Super Mario Bros., if Mario lands on a wall on a 16×16 boundary (so that his foot is on the top corner of a block), the player is able to jump from that point with frame-perfect timing."

Takes a lot of practice to learn how to do a frame perfect wall jump

But you can recover by jumping off the columns in the first picture. They’re not the same.

Huh? There's no wall jumping in this game...

Yes there is. More info: https://mariowiki.com/Wall_Jump "For example, in Super Mario Bros., if Mario lands on a wall on a 16×16 boundary (so that his foot is on the top corner of a block), the player is able to jump from that point with frame-perfect timing."
