The Pentagon today asked the White House for $200 billion to continue a war that neither of them has the constitutional authority to declare.

The Constitution assigns only Congress the power to declare war. Three weeks into bombing Iran, they've abandoned it for the third time. Wednesday's war powers resolution failed 53-47 after Republicans voted en masse to kill it. The official who oversees all 18 American intelligence agencies then told senators that only the president could determine whether Iran was an imminent threat before the attack. Her own counterterrorism chief resigned the day before, saying it was not.

The Treasury Department confirmed Wednesday that the national debt crossed $39 trillion, the same day the Pentagon asked for the money to keep bombing the third country we've attacked since December. Call your senators and remind them they swore an oath to the document that puts war authority in their hands. Demand they honor it.

The high petroleum prices could help nudge people toward renewable energy. That's a bit of silver lining in this dark cloud of war. Ultimately, it could make the whole Gulf region irrelevant vis-a-vis world energy supply.

I wish you were right, but I have a feeling that the propaganda is going to convince people to double down while the oil industry maximizes profits.

I'm sure many will try, but I also observe than very many people are already under severe economic pressure, and something eventually has to give. Changing from petro to electric will be a painful Band-Aid to pull off, but the long-term benefits look better as time goes on. Right now, I'm glad that my 22 year old Prius gets 47+ mpg and I don't drive much anyway. When it eventually dies, I hope to get a plain EV, and not a fancy one. Maybe a Nissan Leaf or the like.

We're reached the plateau where all information is extreme and existentially depressing. Anything less than removing this administration by force,_all of them_ is unacceptable. In a real country, not a corporate oligarchy, this would already have happened. Or at least been attempted. Instead, hey "Throw lawyers at it." And yet it does in fact keep getting worse and people act shocked. At this point I just keep up with things for survival reasons. No one wants to do shit. Maddening.

Nothing has changed in 20 years. You know what the biggest issues were the 2006 midterm elections? Same-Sex Marriage, war in the middle east, Iran's nuclear program, and illegal immigration.

The shattering of norms is the difference. You're right in many ways, but things like Project 2025, USAID, Venezuela, etc. are all norm busters.
