I also don't think people who call her fat are 'just jealous'. Most people aren't. As a fat person, people just hate us for being fat because they lack empathy and/or healthy coping skills. The subtitles of old was the style due to very intensive research into accommodations for the hearing impaired. They were that way for very specific reasons and to ensure it was the most accessible method.
This new style where it flashes individual words is the absolute worst method for readability and retention of information for the viewer.
The specifics vary, but it's as if some people try to outdo one another in how annoying they can make the subtitles. Single words at a time, shaking on entry, flashy colours, all that jazz. It's more distracting than a lubed-up garbage octopus in a tub of eels. Subtitles themselves are perfectly fine - it's the effects that should die.
I am glad. So now I can enjoy watching stuff like this in places I can't have noise on or situations where its not okay. Or people with hearing loss or who are deaf can enjoy. I don't understand what's your problem buddy.

PP does not hate all subtitles -- he specifically hates this particular, "modern" subtitle style. This subtitle style is not actually designed for the hearing impaired. There's an absolute *raft* of research on how to best do subtitling for the hearing impaired, and all of it says that this subtitle style is almost the worst possible way to do it. Normal, BORING, "old" subtitles are actually optimized for maximal understanding and retention.
