We bombed a school full of girls and the Pentagon's takeaway is that they need better technology.

150 people were killed when the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran was destroyed on day one of the war. It took only eight days for Pentagon investigators to conclude that we probably did it. On the same day, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told 60 Minutes that killing is "our job" and that "the only ones that need to be worried right now are Iranians that think they're gonna live."

Also today, the Pentagon's chief technology officer said Anthropic was blacklisted after refusing to build autonomous weapons and mass surveillance for the military. The Pentagon needed partners it could rely on, he said. Google, ChatGPT, and Elon Musk agreed to remove their limits. They apparently agree that the killing can be more clinical and precise, like a video game.

Ironically, if the military DID get good, reliable AI that incorporated legal constraints and the Geneva convention, the military would insist on being able to override it.

Holy fuck guys, I think we be reaching the actual point where it's too late to stop him.

Well number 1 is certainly a top contender for least shocking thing I've read this year.

#13 They want to absolve themselves of the legal liability when AI strikes kill civilians or otherwise break laws. The next step is domestic use, and most of MAGA would be happy with a civil war while they are in power. Kudos to Anthropic but AI is a never present danger on many levels and needs regulation 5 years ago. We can't rely on good actors with something so potentially dangerous to do the right thing.

Google has come a long way from their original motto of "Don't be evil". #13

Yes, and this is the final boss version of it. I mean, I guess they could build the killing weapons for them, but this is close.

#1 Let me guess: Those are NOT the dangerous radicals who, according to Republicans, are poisoning stundents' minds?

These patriots are all that's standing between them and trying to find someone who will loan you the macro econ notes from last Thursday.

Aww, thanks, you know it's just me so there's only word-of-mouth, no advertising, etc.

But yeah, each person who signs up gets to be another person who hopefully isn't swayed by mis- and disinformation in the future.

And hopefully is armed to fight it.

#13 So IF you are going to use AI, please support Anthropic as they actually seem to have a modicum of concern about controls over AI. (Disclaimer: I don’t use AI and don’t plan to.)

1 month ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 5

They really don't. They were and are willing to allow horrible, horrible things to be done with their product, just not two very specific horrible things.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anthropic still supports AI powered surveillance of non-Americans, their hangup was domestic only.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yep, in fact didn't the Pentagon confirm they used Claude integrated into the U.S. military's Maven Smart System (MSS) to assess targets in Iran?

I tell people to think of AI as the “I’m feeling lucky” button on google and the “popcorn” button on their microwave.

Just because it’s the first search result (or default cook time) doesn’t mean it’s right.

Use AI to gather intel your brain can evaluate to help it make a decision. Don’t use AI to make the decision unless it’s something you’d be willing to leave up to luck or chance.

How long to microwave popcorn? I’m willing to risk it.

Where to drop a bomb? No fuckin’ way.

#3 I don't want to do this anymore. My brain hurts. I don't live in America. My brain shouldn't hurt.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Bunch of folks here whose brains and hearts shouldn't hurt either, but here we are.

Gorg. Although that's a mighty small corner of the comforter. I'll bet that more has been used many nights.

She's on the corner specifically to stop me from making the bed and destroying her nest. Don't worry, the bed is hers :P

Congratulations on 400, if congratulations is even the word. It's a hell of a streak, and your work has made a huge difference in my life, to speak for myself. Thank you again and see you tomorrow.

Of course the bed is hers.

And thanks. I know what you mean and I appreciate it.
