highly recommended negotiation tactics for dealing with nazis (and Nat-Cs)

Imgr is the only place I can still say it's okay to punch Nazis in the face.

And then the fly crawls in that guy's mouth.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still kinda funny that if Indiana Jones wasn't in the movie the outcome would've been more or less the same. Marion probably would've died but the nazis still would be dead.

Didn't have my glasses on at first and I thought this was a deleted scene from Star Wars and Luke was about to end the sand people.

Lore debate: Is this 'Junior'?

"You're right! I should just let you take ark that back to Germany for the Fuhrer to open in a massive spectacle with the Reisch high command present in the middle of Berlin. GLHF!"

This..is effing Brilliant well done OP

Yup

.....I have face blindness. Was trying to figure out what episode of Firefly this was from for several minutes.

This negotiation tactic might sound like a good idea, but the fact is that the RPG was not invented until late in world war 2, well after 1936 when this was set and there is no reason that he would have found a soviet weapon in the middle of a desert, that is presumably German controlled.

Practical Waste Disposal Through Incendiary Means.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can't argue in good faith with another who does bad faith as standard practice.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Dudes using the wrong warhead. That's the shaped charge Anti-tank HEAT round. He wants to use the shrapnel round for maximum NZ negotiation.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The perfect is the enemy of the good.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...bad example. In the end he caved to the Nazis and let them continue on doing what they were going to do anyway.

Better example would have been the blimp scene from "Last Crusade". But that one doesn't have a rocket launcher....

"The marketplace of ideas" isn't even something they try to claim anymore. Trump killed that for them.

I genuinely want to know what would have happened if he blew up the Ark.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Same people dead plus Marion. End screen with the G men, slightly different.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Indy probably dead, too, since they didn't all get wiped out by the... things.

Man i wish your political situation were really as simple as that

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

The racists, the bigots... they keep rehashing the same arguments over and over. Look at the old anti-gay arguments dusted off and replayed to attack trans people. They were lies back then. Same with a lot of other attacks you see today. Heck, you see the same bad arguments replayed in different countries. Brexit, anti-immigration screeds repeated...

By the way, the number 1 scene in that article? Phoebe Cates poolside in 'Fast Times At Ridgemont High".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*pretends to be shocked*

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The "free marketplace of ideas" is predicated on the false assumption that the truth will win, but that is not the case in practice. In practice, a lie can make its way around the world while the truth is still putting its shoes on.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

the false assumption of good faith, as well.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pterry tips his hat to you.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The saying is older than him.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. We must secure the triumph of truth by any means necessary. There's no greater injustice than to keep the playing field level when our opponent would bring the end of all democracy, human rights and progress.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Debate me in the marketplace of ideas!"
"Motherfucker, the marketplace of ideas pulled your product because it was full of lead and arsenic. I don't have to debate shit."

2 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 2

Debating legitimizes them, its why I always hate to see people with knowledge demeaning themselves by debating religious zealots.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Which is exactly what they want too. Either you leave, and they win by default, or you get violent, and they can point fingers at you.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I’m willing to go for a Pyrrhic victory if I can take some Nazis with me.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Tellingly, arsenic wasn't removed from wallpaper manufacturing in Britain by the market, despite people KNOWING that it was poisonous AF; only government regulation finally got rid of it.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That happened more than once. Auripigmentum/Orpiment and Realgar were known to be poisonous, even in ancient times. It was used regardless. As was Cerusa/White lead for the perfect tint.

The chumps this gif mocks only understand that the label of "fascist" is bad, not the ideology that the label entails

2 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

like how north korea calls itself a democratic republic

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well yeah, that's how President Cheeto thinks he can call Harris a "marxist communist fascist".

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I once read the definition of fascism off wiki to one, and he said "No, that's naziism!" and I showed him the link, and they shut up quick.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He also learned that Naziism is a specific flavor of Fascism.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just like most of the labels they like to throw around...

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

"Radical left marxist communist fascist" to quote a wannabe dictator.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And 'woke' which they can't even define

I got a 3 day ban on Reddit (from Admins, not Mods) for it. Very telling of the people working at Reddit.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I got the same ban for the same thing. I deleted my account as soon as I saw the ban notice, and haven’t been back.

If your TOS protect Nazis, you’re a Nazi.

Too temporary. We need Nürnberg 2.0.

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

fuck the paradox of tolerance. It's one reason things have gotten as bad as they are.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Daily reminder that, seen through the lens of a social contract, tolerance ceases to be paradoxical.

The benefits of a contract can't be claimed by those who are in breach of it.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Here's the solution.

2 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

BEAUTIFUL

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which is why the past few years have been pushing the "Social Contract of Tolerance". Those who choose to be intolerant waive any obligation others have to tolerate them.

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

oh, I absolutely follow the social contract. I am *not* quiet when it comes to Nazis demanding to be treated differently than they treat everyone else.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

THIS!!! If you aren't going to be Anti-Nazi, by God, you WILL be vewwy vewwy quiet...

he's going to need more 'arguments' but he's got the right idea.

2 years ago | Likes 356 Dislikes 3

Pretty sure the "argument" he's holding is plenty enough shock value

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta start somewhere...

Legit question for the military folks: assuming we currently see all soldiers in the pic, would an rpg get all of them or nah? Their representation in media is wildly inconsistent... from completely inefective to absolutely devastating.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These are stronger than bulletproof glass, right?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's a shaped charge that creates a jet of molten metal designed to penetrate tank armor. So generally yes.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It appears to be an RPG, so… yes.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Those are difficult to obtain, right?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

somewhat of a pain to acquire as an average joe, but the Soviets did build them by the millions of crates and lost many.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are places you could could probably get them fairly easily. Getting them back to where you live could be a pretty big problem.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope. Click. BOOM. END OF DEBATE.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 7

No, because in this analogy, it would be blowing up the United States. He didn't go through with this bluff because he didn't want to destroy the arc.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well thanks to Mr 34 felonies himself we ain't really United much anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think they mean, more to make sure he's got ALL of them covered.

No way!? I just rewatched this movie yesterday and mansplained to my wife that the RPG 7 didn’t hit the market until 1961.

I started writing a reply but then I read the first part of your username.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

EXACTLY!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God same. I try so hard to to be a weapon history nerd but sometimes it's just so hard not to bring up.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was the 80's.

TBF him firing a panzerfaust from the hip would have looked even cooler.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahahah

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it an annoying anachronism? Yes. Do I love it because it's Henry Jones firing a rocket-propelled grenade at Nazis? Fuck yes.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I know a panzerfaust doesn’t look menacing enough, but they could have gone for a panzershrek?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's an RPG-2 dressed up to look like one, so...they actually kinda did? But also, neither their anti-tank muskets, nor their knockoff bazookas would exist in the time frame of the film, either.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Word.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But dressed up? Where is the shield plate?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was going to add those in. Both were available to Nazis on all fronts of the war. There was never a reason to add in a weapon that wouldn't exist for over 15 years historically.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean... there *is* a reason, and it's that the RPG is a recognisable and commonly reproduced/imitated (and thus easy to acquire for filming) piece of equipment which wouldn't require much explanation for a mass audience. Which admittedly is a functional, practical filmmaking/production out-of-universe kind of answer to what is probably more of a historical in-universe filmmaking kind of question, but... hey, t'was ever thus with a lot of stuff like this 🤷🏻‍♀️

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And here I was thinking that I was mansplaining, lol. I know why this choice was probably made, but there is a more era-accurate and recognizable alternative available. So why go for this?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Strictly speaking, the Panzershreck that it's dressed up to imitate wouldn't exist for another 5 years, either. Unless you're expecting a 1981 action flick to conjure up a real, live Panzershreck and ammo for it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I looked it ip on Wikipedia, Raiders is set in 1936, the Panzerschreck hails from 1943, so it’s even further apart.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I expect the armorer to be able to build a life like representation of one. You don't realize how easy it is to make a facsimile of one and add a rocket to the bulb to make it fly on a guide wire to the target that detonated itself. Did you think the movie used a REAL rpg in it?
