Frontpage Edit: Thank you, I have a soft spot here. I was briefly unhoused during one summer in my early 20s. It could of been much worse and I was lucky to have lots of friends with couches, and employment that had a backroom filled with bags of donated clothing so I was more of a wondering feral cat...anyhoo I was lucky. There are a million and one reasons a person or family may become unhoused and these end stage capitalism spasms sure as shit ain't helping.

Among considerations such as worse 'health outcomes', food insecurity, and vulnerability to human trafficking, the overall lack of safety (legal & physical) caused by having no home is daunting. The risks are real, living in the open air in tents as a semi-permanent stop-gap, if someone in one of those camps hadn't fired back it could have been a fucking bloodbath. Imagine sitting in your home as you are now, but without walls to shelter you, it's intolerable.

I was taken to a church for an AA meeting and the driver told me not to walk between the cars. He said that the church allowed homeless women to use the parking lot to sleep in their cars and use their kitchen and WIFI. They had dogs or were even armed, and a lot of them were scared so we gave them space. These women had reason to be scared. Homelessness comes in a lot of forms and compassion in needed not this rhetoric that asshole is spewing.

I'm not dismissing this, but people need to realize that there is a lot of criminal behavior in homeless camps. Crime and poverty are intertwined and the majority of mass shootings in the US are criminal acts and not political acts. Let's hold off on the conspiracy theories until actual evidence appears.

It must be noted that asylums had cases of massive abuses taking place; physical, sexual, mental, and emotional. These were not rare events and it should be noted that they were in part a consequence of putting people in a position of great power over others, whom should not have been.
Any talk of bringing back asylums needs to be tempered by better safeguards, especially for involuntary patients and those with significant learning disabilities

Yes I agree. There are instances of abuse in any institutional setting. Can you imagine what it would be like if drumpf starts shipping them off to "camps". What's to stop them from outright execution? It's scary to think that a previous mental health diagnosis and/or homelessness can get you disappeared. This administration has no interest in helping these people. They just want them out of sight and gone.
