An important point to raise is that Starmer isn't facing pressure to resign because he hired a guy who hung out with Epstein, it's because he hired a guy who was feeding secret government information to Epstein for insider trading purposes.
Well let's look at that UK government for a second, if he steps down, true triumph, but the administration still is rotten to the core with the curtailed free speech deeming a senior citizen group as a terrorist organization, in apologetic support of the genocide of Palestine, and continued supply of military resources to the IDF to continue that genocide.
Well it's a bit more than that but not much. They thought they were being clever by sending a snake to hang out with the other snakes. Not so much in the end.
Captured opposition. All you have to see is how every time democrats have power, they twiddle thumbs til it gets taken from them. It's all a fucking sham, its the same group doing the same shit and just throwing us enough of a bone that we can kid ourselves it isn't only ever getting worse.
I knew Starmer was a piece of shit for arresting elderly and disabled people protesting against a Genocide, but this just validates that he's an inhumane piece of shit.... AND HE WAS A FUCKING HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER!
This is not a reason to get forced out, albeit it has exposed weaknesses in his support. He has nothing to do with any of it and everyone knows that, it's a cheap reason to try and gather enough support to take out yet another PM. Love or loathe the chap, he's given Labour some stability that they have been struggling to pin down in recent years, but perhaps his leadership isn't as trusted by his party as he hoped.
I hope he survives, not because I have any particular fondness of him or labour, but because I feel we need stability in government and a chance for policy to have an impact before the next leadership drama. Politicians seem even more self driven these days, it doesn't do the act of governing any good.
Look at what Boris ignored, scandal after scandal after scandal.
His cabinet ministers were physically manhandling MPs to vote, and intimidating them to vote a particular way. He used tax payer money to jazz up his 2nd London home. Then there's his nepotistic appointments, and shady back handers, COVID mismanagement, hiding in a fridge and just being a general cunt.
Labour have had a completely uneven treatment by the press since they came to power. Rampant sexism against Rachel Reeves too
Labour are Tory-lite and have been since War Criminal Tony Blair's 'New Labour' rebrand in to 90s. Labour exists to prevent 'radical left' parties and actors from getting near government. Corbyn wanted to stop arming genocides, have living wages and the wealthy to pay all their taxes. The filthy commie had to go, so the witch hunt by his party and the press begun
My thoughts exactly. Then my trauma brain said that’s hellfuckinreality. Sometimes I give that voice a Robin Williams sound as humor helps, not this time. Nothing funny can even help.
Fair, BUT that's why it's "primaried." Vote dem (or progressive), but on the primaries vote progressive. Don't throw away votes, but support the most progressive political candidates who support real change. Replace centrists everywhere you can, but don't NOT vote for a centrist when the other option is a fascist.
Not sure how you're defining "full power" but Clinton had control of all branches and rather than pass health care, he focused on his "Crime Bill" which destroyed (and still is) the lives of millions of impoverished families. Obama had control of all branches and rather than push through his health care, he insisted repeatedly on "Negotiating" as deal, all while the GOP was in the news openly mocking him and stating they were not negotiating, they were sabotaging
While it's true they had majority (at least 50.01% of the seats) in Congress those times, that's not always enough to actually get stuff done. With the filibuster rule in the Senate, you really need 60 votes to move forward with it if a single opposing person wants to block the bill. 50 plus VP as tiebreaker isn't enough.
And yeah they *could* have killed the filibuster rule with a majority, but they still would have had DINOs like Manchin, Sinema, and others blocking shit. 1/2
So unless the Democrats were in lockstep like Republicans are 95% of the time (it's easy for Repubs to get their people on the same page because they have a unifying goal of "make everything worse"), you need extra seats to protect against Dems not voting with the rest of the party.
Yes the filibuster is real, and the shutdown that happened in fall of 2025 happened because the ACA was set to expire. People with full power don't put expirations on their laws, lol.
Joe Manchin would never have ended the filibuster. But as much as he sucked, he may have been the highest marginal value senator vs expected replacement.
Honestly the UK public are so fucking gullible, it really does come down to whether or not Murdoch and co want it to be a scandal. Remember what happened to Corbyn?
That said, Starmer *is* a Tory, and a liar, and a coward, and he needs to fuck off before the whole country ends up in Farage's lap.
I remember Corbyn as one of the old school lefties with all typical strings attached. The most problematic string was... well... the apparent cryptolove to Russia. This is a problem with a lot of the politicians of the traditional left all over Europe unfortunately. He won't say directly that Russian invasion to Ukraine was provoked by the West, but he always says that *from Russian perspective* NATO and EU expansion would be considered a threat. 1/2
It's the same like many of the German social democrats, who clearly desire for Russia to finally win in Ukraine, so that Germany can return again to the mutually beneficial trade of cheap Russian oil & gas for German machinery. Luckily, the modern left (Grüne, or now even Linke under Reichinek) is not infested with Russian stooges and won't fall for this shit. The UK needs some of that. 2/2
Cryptolove?? Fuck off with that bullshit. Reducing the Ukraine invasion to a simple good/bad equation requires believing that 'the West' has been free of corruption and conflicting interests. And the 'Russian perspective' has been repeatedly confirmed by senior western analysts from both left and right. Yes the invasion is a wag-the-dog war that protects Putin from being tossed out a window. Should sound familiar: Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump admins all had fake wars. Corbyn was framed.
This is Russian propaganda bullshit. NATO & EU *do not expand*. Countries are applying for membership because they want to be part of the club and this needs to be approved by all respective member states. Ukraine repeatedly applied for NATO membership because it was afraid of Russian aggression and was repeatedly denied said membership because "it could provoke Russia". Also NATO hasn't been a conceivable threat to Russia for decades. 1/2
It is publicly known we had ammunition for about a month of warfare. There were many reasons for Russia attacking Ukraine, but all of them stem from Russian internal politics. I am not saying Corbyn is in bed with Russia the same way Trump, Farage, Orbán, Le Pen and many others are. I am just saying he is enamored with it just as many old school leftist are because a lot of them do not like the US imperialism (and rightfully so) and somehow perceive Russia as the inheritor 2/3

The prime minister appointed the pedo to a senior position despite a long history of being sketchy

Because in USA you lack proper enforcement of laws on politicians and the rich.
This means only thing your system relies on is DECENCY of the people in power...
That's utterly stupid and naive.

As someone in the US that is slowly losing to the bad thoughts: can we just jump to the part where we're nuked into the stone age?
Or get somebody to reset the simulation already?

I mean that's not the only reason Starmer needs to fuck of.

Rayner did the right thing by walking, she did wrong and she set an example. And she was crucified for it.
How many Tory front benchers were drenched in scandal and they laughed it off. Braverman, Patel to name but a few.

Not even as good as scum. Scum at least floats to the top so it can be skimmed off and disposed of. This is total rot. There is no saving this soup.

Yes, there are Democrats like Schumer that ruin their ability to do anything, but that only further proves just how useless the Democrats today are..

in 2020 they had the house, the senate, and the white house. Same with the first two years of obama.

OK, let's be honest there. If this happened to Tories, it wouldn't be nearly such a scandal.

Yeah, but its expected behaviour from a Tory, so it wouldn't be a scandal. Not surprising that its the Tories in Labour clothing that did it though
