I didn't think I needed a septoplasty. All three doctors told me I did. The result is amazing. I really did need one, and breathing is improved so much.
The first doctor I went to recommended an excision of the glands that contain the nerve that was irritated causing it to produce so much mucous that I would regularly fall deathly ill. I got COVID twice and both times I nearly died from how sick I was. Even before COVID I would regularly become ill for 2 to 3 months once or twice every single year.
The thing that turned me off from the surgical option is that the doctor expressed his specific distaste for reading medical journals and the scientific method. He specifically told me that he wasn't going to perform the surgery the way recent medical journals say it should be performed because, and I shit you not he actually said this: "I'm old school."
I can understand he has a lot of experience, but if good science tells you something, you should listen.
The result is an extreme reduction in the amount of mucous. I didn't know until two years ago why I got so sick all the time. Then my doctor gave me a corticosteroid called Omnaris. It changed my life. It's not an antihistamine or decongestant. It stops your nose from becoming irritated. Immediately my health improved. 2 years I haven't been really sick even though I got viral sick about 18 months ago. If you have excess mucous production and it's making you sick, I recommend giving a steroid a long hard try. It takes a while of using it properly to figure out what it's actually doing and how well it works. Your nose has been irritated for so long, even after a few weeks of using the steroid, it takes a while to process ... how goddamn effective it is.
Love you, all.
Oh, btw, the surgery was brutal for about 1.5-2 weeks. Both sides of your nose are just filled with blood and pus. Plus your nose and palette are frozen for like 3 weeks. Also, I sneeze a lot more now, at least for the short term, probably because my nose isn't used to being clear.

Oh I absolutely should do this. *breathes mechanically through excuse of a septum*

Oh I did it and a bit more back in July. It's like a new live afterwards.

I didn't know anything could be done about excess mucus, I just bring tissues everywhere I go and take a ton of allergy meds

Try Omnaris. Like really give it a good try.

But was it spooky?

It didn't deal with any skeletal structures, so I'm gonna call this one

Does this improve the ability to snort drugs?

Yes, but think of the nasal sex possibilities!

I hope this clears things up for you, OP. I have chronic sinusitis, so I know what it's like when that part of your body works against you.

Also, I hope your surgeon didn't use that AI suggestion on how it's done! They don't actually cut there, or use that instrument. More like in the image below (although the image doesn't show the nostril being stretched and held open by clamps, which I believe is (often?/always?sometimes?) the case.

Is that an AI suggestion? I think it's demonstrating turbinate hypertrophy caused by having a deviated septum.
DutchBoeremeisie
It's an AI image. The AI doesn't know how the operation is done, and is guessing.

*doesn't know how to illustrate how the operation is done...

Well I got it from https://look-younger.net/septoplasty-surgery/ I get the feeling it's not depicting the surgery, but the condition that requires surgery.
DutchBoeremeisie
It literally says "incision into the nose" and cuts away a section of the guy's nose. Although I suppose that might also then create a condition that requires surgery.
Not knocking your post, just pointing out that it's an AI image that is giving the wrong impression of how the procedure is carried out.

I can ask my dad some time tomorrow if that would help clear it up. He’s an ENT so he would know
