A Ukrainian sport plane—converted into an autonomous bomber—flew nearly 1,000 km and struck a missile-armed icebreaker at the Vyborg shipyard in Leningrad Oblast.
The $222 million Purga never left the pier. Post-raid imagery shows the 114-meter ship heavily listing and taking on water.
The sport plane costs less than $100,000.
The Purga is one of only four Project 23550 combat icebreakers Russia is building to enforce its Arctic shipping claims. It can carry Kalibr cruise missiles capable of hitting targets 2,000 km away. Only one of the four has entered service. Ukraine may have just delayed the second hull by years.
A video shows the drone cruising over Vyborg without a bomb under its fuselage—possibly meaning it dropped its payload and was heading home. If so, it's one of Ukraine's first reusable deep strike drones.
The same night, Ukrainian drones hit the Novatek oil plant at Ust-Luga. The Primorsk terminal, struck two days earlier, was still smoldering.
Ukraine could build 2,200 of these sport planes for the price of the ship they just crippled.

Vyborg is Finnish & Karelian city, conquered and occupied originally by Soviet Union, now by Russia.

This is why you don't fuck with former East Bloc people (Russia doesn't count). They know how to turn shit into gold.

"combat icebreaker" is definitely a phrase I didn't expect.

Ukraine is making some really impressive long range strikes. I can't wait for them to start hitting Vladivostok (again)

Drone warfare would be so cool if it weren’t completely terrifying

Meanwhile Israhell cannot bomb a proper military target without killing at least 100 civilians each strike at 2 km from the missile launch.
AtmaDarkwolf
well.. might be a mark on them if.. u know.. the civilians were not the actual targets... which they are...

Sort of like the torpedo bomber biplane that hit the rudder of the Bismarck. Except this cheap aircraft might have scuttled it entirely
TerrorAustralisIncognita
Sort of... but not really imo - the Swordfish Torpedo bombers were at one point the most advanced torpedo bombers Royal Navy had. They were flown by frontline pilots off an aircraft carrier. These are purely civilian recreational planes they kitbashed into drones and duct taped a bomb to

Ooooh...
Icebreakers are rare and very expensive

I hope the drone could come back home safe.
CarlBassett
Seems a waste to me. The plane/drone is fairly cheap and if you loaded more explosive instead of the fuel needed for the return trip you could do a lot more damage. Even have a bomb you can drop and then use the drone as a flying bomb to hit a secondary target.

Hits like this do a LOT to help Canada and Finland in the north. Thanks for everything Ukraine!
Timesarrows
i wish Finland, Canada, some country (Iran?) would open up an Eastern Front attack on the orcs so orcs would have to divert 30% of resources east!
zach14332718
And yet you still have stupid dumb fuck Canadians complaining Canada is helping Ukraine. The amount of literal Russian propaganda I see posted on Facebook by actual Canadians is infuriating
SavageDrums
They're a loud minority of complete fucking idiots. If we had proportional representation in Canada, they'd never be anything close to a threat.
TheGriffin
To be fair, we also have stupid dumb fuck canadians thinking we should buy F35s

Apperently the Ukrainian drone pilots have celebrated a bit too much lately, 2 drones have gone down inside Finland
DrWolfram
They send 100s of drones daily to hit russian oil/war industry and a couple got detoured by electronic warfare. Still looks like an awesome job considering 40% of russian oil export was crippled.
PanNonOpticon
We don't mind. They dropped into places where average population density is about 1 to 100 000 square meter.
secularink
3 drones now. They thought "Kouvola" was Soviet Union. I mean anyone could make that mistake. Also they were rerouted there by Russian electronic warfare. Possibly be intent.

Sure, those were actually Ukrainian drones and not a Russian false flag?
swedeonamoose
Ukraine has already said they were sorry for one of them and acording Finland they all appear to be Ukrainian drones.
ImmOldGreggg
This is why the Un never sent any troops over to help the Ukraine defend itself, because they knew they would invade Russia back and that would give Russia a reason to throw us into a nuclear world war. Ukrainians are just as evil as Russians but they are just a tiny and poor country. But what can you expect Russia has repeatedly invaded and committed genocide against large populations of them. War causes you to lose your humanity.

Daliena06
Ukraine would be insane to try and counter-invade Russia with any real intent of holding territory, unless we're referring to retaking the Donbas and Crimea which were illegally annexed from them by Russia in the first place.
"Just as evil as Russians" GFY.
ImmOldGreggg
I think the fact Putin is the evil of Russia not the citizens seems to have gone over your head. You do know they are being conscripted right? The average Russian hates the war more then Ukrainians because they know they are going to die and no country will take them as a pow. You should try to understand the situation as a whole not just the tiktoc reels you see okay.
Daliena06
Ukraine *is* taking Russian POWs. Russia meanwhile is executing captured Ukrainians on camera. I have yet to hear of all that many Russians finding their balls and saying "we won't be cannonfodder for you" and using those weapons they're given to resist if need be.
I do hear a lot of stories of Russians creating mass graves of civilians in Bucha, looting and all that stuff that a moral army does.
ImmOldGreggg
Of course Ukraine is taking pow's, if they didn't all that Un funding would vanish instantly. The only Russians that can talk about Russia are the ones that live in other countrys without any family back home. Do you seriously think a country run by psychopathic leader after leader lets slander go unpunished? You must be in such a nice safe little bubble to just see one side and decide to stand with it and not even educate yourself in the slightest.
Daliena06
Ya, I love living in a country that has in the last 100 years been repeatedly invaded by Russians
Anyway keep on trolling, Ivan. You can't even keep the talking points the Kremlin gives you straight between "nobody will take Russian POWs" to "oh sure Ukraine will take them but only for cash". Almost like Ukraine is the only country at war with Russia so they're the only ones with a reason to take POWs?!
