Eight days ago a federal judge fined a government lawyer $500 a day for defying her order.

That was the warning shot. Today, Minnesota Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz threatened criminal contempt after his review found more than 200 court order violations since January. Another judge ruled the IRS broke the law 42,695 times by bulk-feeding confidential taxpayer addresses to ICE. Federal judges have stopped issuing warnings. They're building cases.

And while courts count the crimes, the deportations keep coming. DHS admitted to Congress it deported 86 people protected under DACA, people who grew up here and passed federal background checks every time they renewed. Three senators are demanding answers. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed most had "criminal histories" but refused to provide a single detail.

Call your representatives and demand Noem's resignation or impeachment. The courts are doing their job. Congress needs to do theirs.

I know, its a public statement of opposition... hopefully it will galvanise more cities, then states, with the inevitable escalation response from trump.

I'm not sure if a mayor technically has the kind of authority to ban people from the city, period, so it's kind of the next best thing to do to tell them to fuck off from city property, like not barging into courthouses to attack folks coming for their immigration hearings.

Now I guess the question is, will the local cops enforce literally any of that? I'm not feeling too optimistic, sadly.

He actually said, while running the first time, that the key to dealing with bill collectors was to simply not pay them. Ever. And people still voted for him.

I'd bet that the only problems a lot of those folks would have with it is 1: When it starts to affect *them* (and even then I doubt they'd vote against him), and 2: They're just full of envy that *they* aren't the ones who get to loot the country to stuff their own pockets.

They got hosed today, but I can't imagine the courts going along with it. Really proud of them. It didn't seem like a huge ask.

Considering OpenAI said they have the same guardrails, it clearly is a reasonable ask. (Not that I trust anyone about any part of that deal.)

I am almost certain that the lawyers at anthropic knew this fight was coming. Not these specifics perhaps, but a government trying to push them over their red line was inevitable.

I'm betting the legal news the next few weeks will be interesting. I wonder if the Trump administration is truly prepared for this. /s
