The Republican Party is building a wall around the ballot box to stop a crime its own leaders say hasn't happened.

Bill Barr was the United States Attorney General in 2020 and found no evidence of widespread fraud capable of changing an election. Chris Krebs ran the federal cybersecurity agency and called 2020 the most secure election in American history. Trump fired him for it. Brad Raffensperger ran Georgia's elections and refused to find 11,780 votes when Trump called and asked. Despite their findings, Trump's Deputy Attorney General this week endorsed sending ICE to American polling places to protect against fraud that doesn't happen. Federal law expressly prohibits it.

Trump cast a mail ballot for a Florida special election last week, then defended it at a cabinet meeting by saying his presidency makes in-person voting impractical. He is demanding Congress pass a bill that would restrict that option for everyone else.

That bill is the SAVE Act. It requires a passport or birth certificate to register to vote or change your existing registration when you move. A driver's license doesn't qualify. Nearly as many Americans lack a passport as voted in the entire 2024 presidential election. And the 69 million married women who took their husband's name do not have a birth certificate that matches their legal name. Trump's lies about the 2020 election stirred a mob of his supporters to attack the Capitol. Don't let his newest lies send them back. Call your representatives and tell them to vote no on the SAVE Act.

Thank you. People like you amplifying the news also matters very much.

I am by now kind of just hoping that everyone is as worried about the midterms as I am. I feel like almost the one real hope is that this government is very, very incompetent, just as much as it is evil, and so when they -inevitably- try to rig and steal the midterms, they will mess it up in some very dramatic way that backfires spectacularly. Short of some truly organized and massive scale opposition, like the national strike idea I sometimes see floated in comments, what else is there?..

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They don't need to "rig the election".
Didn't the last few show that the control of the process and suppression of the "opposition voters" is enough to make it close, then use every dirty trick to rile their supporters just before voting days.
They'll continue winning until the opposition remove all those obstacles. Something they have failed to do for decades.

It is becoming hilariously obvious that the US is doing a speed run to full fascist dictatorship. How can *anyone* still dismiss the danger?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm long past any witty comments about the horrible shit happening in and to our country. But know George, that I am grateful for you every single day!

#1 fucking LAND MINES?1?+ near residential areas??

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trump had them reinstituted - I think it was his first administration.

My question has been, "Why are we worried about Iranian tanks if we're not putting boots on the ground?"

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh they are 100% putting boots on the ground. It's been telegraphed so hard that that's what they're doing. Troops are being sent there, marines and others. But land mines are just the fucking worst, nothing is worth that, I don't care if they stop some soldiers being killed by tanks, land mines will be killing children and civilians in Iran for decades afterwards. It's an atrocity. USA military has gone full fascist.

Why is it impractical for Trump to vote in person? He has his own fucking plane

And he was in FL for two of the weekends during the early voting period.

All they care about is oil. It's gross. Fuck the wildlife, fuck the world, just make more oil money.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I feel like several red states are gonna try and do a version of it, if it doesn't pass.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

TN is trying already. And requires ID that doesn't actually exist. "One document, containing proof of citizenship, current address, and photo."

#18 I am complete unsurprised, again, but seriously WTF!? I'm beyond hating all these complicit motherfuckers.

"The deal did not include any of the restraints Democrats have demanded as they sought to rein in Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said the outcome could have been reached weeks ago, and vowed that his party would continue fighting to ensure Trump’s “rogue” immigration operation “does not get more funding without serious reform.”"

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

All of this is rage-inducing but #3 hits a special spot. These ghouls think their fucking profits are worth more than the lives of living, breathing fucking creatures and their right to a clean and healthy environment.

I yearn for the day these ghouls face the fucking wall.

2 weeks ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 1

Also, wtf is hegseth involved for?

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My guess is he's trying to bring gas prices down so he can keep playing war with Iran and Cuba

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's pretty much it. The loophole is the military needs oil and we're not letting these pesky regulations get in the way---national emergency.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They've already long since made it obvious they don't give a shit about human lives, so of course there was no way in hell they'd care about endangered species.

Why the fuck would we want a pedos signature on our currency. These people are depraved.

2 weeks ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

The number one reason to abandon cash is to keep a pedo's signature out of your wallet.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't want to screw with cashiers, but I can see myself asking for different bills if someone tried to give me one.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People are going to use a permanent marker to treat those bills as DoJ treated his name in the Trumpstein Files and redact his signature.... I'm people.

#3 What is the mental gymnastics justification for off-shore oil drilling being needed for national security?

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

They know voters are pissed about gas prices, they can't make the price go down, because Iran is in control of that. But if they destroy some pristine environment to drill for more oil and gas, some Americans will believe that will, eventually, lower gas prices. It never does, drilling more at home just means more profits for oil companies, it doesn't make a dent in the global oil price, compared to 20% of oil being blocked in the strait, but some voters might think that it will. That's it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We started a war where we get oil and we need to get oil to fuel our war that we totally already won and we also need 200 billion more dollares for that war that we already won.

2 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

You’re right, of course. But this is why we have untouched oil reserves. We already have enough oil for the entire planet for years.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh and anything that threatens the trump regime, ie. Voters being pissed at their unpopular policies, that is a threat to national security. I'm surprised they haven't tried to decree that elections are bad for national security (trump regime's power) and cancel them yet.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#16 while this is just another "leg lift" for Trump to mark his territory with his stupid name, let's just be glad it's not going to be his face on currency.

#1 Jesus fucking Christ we are just going to be doing all the war crimes under this criminal regime aren't we? These people all need to be made to face the wall when the day comes. Every last one of them.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The worst part is, this one isn’t even especially Trumps fault. Russia, the US, Israel and a few others refused to sign treaties banning mines.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My understanding was that the US didn't sign the treaty but wasn't actually developing much less deploying landmines since the fall of the USSR. But it appears that was wrong.

Fuck trump and fuck every last republicans enabling this bullshit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't be surprised if we aren't developing new ones so much as just dumping old stock on people. Which is probably worse for all involved since that means more degraded ordinance that'll be even more of a mess to clear.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ukraine even if freed from the Russian Invasion tomorrow will not be able to occupy Ukraine due to all the Russian land mines!

You can legally write on money including putting a sharpie line across his signature when and if it appears. Might end up being a great little protest.

I'd expect the cultists would attempt to reject the cash.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As I said in an earlier reply, treat it like the DoJ treated his name in the Trumpstein Files. Redact.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or an obscenity before his name. FUCK trump.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fuck PEDO trump

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If your birth cert doesn't match your current name (like so many married/divorced women) you need your Birth cert, your marriage license, your divorce decree, your current ID ... It's fucking fucked. I happen to have all that because I moved states a few years ago and oklahoma required all of that just so I could get my DL here. It was a slog, because the county of my birth was different from the county I married in, and different county I divorced in. All locations required retrieval in person.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

This is going to be some serious shit for people trying to get all this documentation, and it's even harder if you don't have the opportunity or ability to physically go to the locations you need to because records keeping is archaic and broken because our system is designed to hamper every single thing you need to do to be a society. (thank you @GeorgeBounacos for continuing to be so vigilant.)

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

And for all the people who just flat out *can't* get this documentation. My mother can't get a copy of her birth certificate because the records dept in her home state burnt down in the 70s. She was adopted so the name on the cert doesn't match anyway, but the adoption paperwork was rez-quality and not accepted by most courts now. She has a 'certificate of live birth' from the *hospital*, that is not a birth certificate from the state and doesn't count. Guess she's not allowed to vote.

Try reaching out to your congressman, this is the kind of thing they are set up to help with. If that fails, the local news may be able to get some action.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is important. Your rep has a constituent services team. Get to them. Literally just Google constituent services rep [name]. You'll often get a direct number or email. They know you're looking for help, not to vent. And don't forget that every congressman has local offices. If your rep doesn't help for whatever reason, pick your favorite in-state senator.

There's going to be so, so many of these situations.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Question. Where did the custom for women to take their husbands last name started? Im legally married, but in my country women still use their own last name for any legal matter

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

When women were regarded as property and chattel, not as actual human beings with their own agency.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Middleages basically, back when a married woman didn't have a separate legal status from her husband and couldn't own property.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm in America, and my wife kept her last name. No issues on my part there.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It’s an issue for the nearly 80% of women in straight marriages in the US though so it is an issue that needs resistance even if your wife isnt affected.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Muslim women don’t get a new surname, Chump does not know that or anything else I’m guessing…

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was not saying the SAVE [Republican's ability to remain electable by disenfranchising a large portion of the opposition's base] Act isn't a giant pile of horse shit. I meant that I had no issues with my wife's choice to keep her last name. Sorry for the confusion.
