I do enjoy making sure 90% of the work is done in the kitchen, while the other 18 employees do 10% of the work. I wish I could say fuck it, but elderly need to be fed and taken care of
I work part time at a pizza place, America amiright?, and we got an order for 250 pizzas. We delivered said pizzas. They wanted 250 SLICES, not pizzas. I hate people.
(customer) i need a rush order (store owner) cool, we charge 20% extrs for that (employee) do i get paid 20% extra for rushing it? (store owner) no, i just expect you to work 20% faster for free
I am pretty sure the staff at a bakery I sometimes like going to were ready to throw hands with customers that tried to place orders a day before major holidays. Here I am, among other who were more considerate by placing our orders weeks beforehand so that they can actually have the time to get the needed stuff together and fill our orders.
When I worked at Wendy's in Utah (2005-2006), we had one of those "big families" (polygamists) come in. 1 guy (in a suit), 7 women (in tradwife dresses), and 42 children, all but 6 of these kids were under 13. They ordered 36 kids meals, 14 Single combos, and 10 5-piece nuggets...with exactly 8 barbecue dipping sauces. The dining room was empty after a rush, and we were in cleanup/recovery mode. Then, in a flash, the entire dining room was fuller than it was an hour prior.
About twenty-something years ago, I worked an A.M. to-go shift at a VERY busy restaurant because the regular guy was out on vacation. I had to show up about 3 hours before the shift even started just to BEGIN packing a monstrous order totaling somewhere around $3k USD.
They didn't tip a red cent and the GM banned them from ever ordering from us again.
Yeah, that’s insane. Large tables, parties, huge orders get auto-grat. I appreciate the arguments on both sides, but I’m going to make sure they get paid regardless, because my people aren’t getting screwed because some people say, “well, $X is enough because it’s a lot of money and 20% would be silly!”
SOOOOO true, Have a local business (train rides) that orders sandwiches from us anywhere from 3 a day to 130 a day. They send the order at 5am and pick up at 8am, told us the other day if its a large order they need to pick up at 7 cause they need more prep time. Told them but so do we, acted like we were crazy "how long does it take to make a sandwich" Bitch not long but for a 130, cooking bread, slicing meat and wrapping? a bit
100% Reminds me of the classic bad review for a Subway where a woman says her catering order at another place wasn’t made, so they went to Subway, and order 120 sandwiches. She was furious that they didn’t give her a discount, and that they had to wait an hour!
An hour for two people is making a full sandwich every minute each, until the order is done!
Dude, back in the day I worked at a Subway just outside Norfolk Naval Base. Line out the door every week day at lunch, guys with lists for their whole shops orders...6 people working the sandwich line, shit was crazy! Glad I don't have to deal with that+online orders coming in all crazy, too!
I was working at a Jimmy John’s and a call came in for party subs in an unreasonable turnaround time that I would normally just give a flat no to but we we slow and had the right people there so I said normally I would say we couldn’t make that happen but if you can wait a little bit longer and will write a review I can make that happen. We busted ass and got there a little early then we agreed but after the original time she asked for. She complained we were late.
I also used to work for Jimmy John’s. Back in the day before we had Google maps on our phones. Sometimes it was really hard to find a corporate office.

First time I've seen a commercial kitchen not use 1 pound (453 grams) bricks of butter.

I don't have a Mexican bakery near me. I had conchas once in Detroit and they were delicious.

I want concha bread now
nurmich
Alright. You've convinced me. I'm going to the panaderia to get conchas tomorrow morning.

If you pay for them I will help you eat them.

I know I could Google it but what's a concha?
nurmich
It's a Mexican sweet roll that has some variety of topping. Not quite as sweet as a donut but very, very tasty.
ThisGuyPostingThings
200?
nurmich
Sure. I've been trying to cut back.
Samthetrue
You've been doing so well! You should treat yourself tomorrow! And pick me up a few hundred as well!

Ha! I’ve been all three of these people at some point. Insane orders are a universal in food service!

Tipping culture needs to be eradicated.

Easier said than done in a society where employees, employers, and customers prefer it.
As a restaurant owner, I’d much rather not deal with it, but the impact is often not survivable
