If the worst happens - just don't turn a stumble into a fall.

Hey. I'm at 6 months now. And I have had different lengths of time up to several years and kept falling back. So I might not have the best luck, but the advice I was given helps me now. It's a difficult position to put yourself into, and it is scary. You are completely legit in being concerned. Know that you can have fun, but also have an exit plan. Be there for the bride and groom, but arrange with your fiance so you can feel comfortable to leave if you need to, even if they don't.

Congratulations! 9 yrs here. Play the movie thru in your head. It always ends the same way. Just make it hour to hour and have your own transportation. Don't give into peer pressure, it's all in your head. Nobody cares that you're not drinking. One day at a time. Good Luck and enjoy the wedding!

Just remember a drink won't make anything better.

Think of how strong you'll feel after you attend the event without drinking.

Feel absolutely free to step outside for fresh air as often as you need to. No shame in taking a break.

One is too many. Ten is not enough. Leave when the party gets to the drinking phase.

If you let the servers know they're usually pretty chill about making sure you only get sodas and seltzers and sometimes they make really tasty mixes

Who's driving?

That’s my trick. I offer to drive, and tell everyone I’m driving. No one offers me anything but soft drinks

My first sober event at a bar was watching the Superbowl for the Eagles, in Philly. The girlfriend was with me and supported me. We agreed if it got to be too much and I wanted to leave, without question or judgement we'd leave right away. Stayed the whole game. Lots of people tried to give me free drinks, turned em all down. You got it! I absolutely would not have done that solo and still won't without someone like that.

How do you strengthen your resolve and willpower? That might be what i may be missing

Intellectual conviction vs emotional conviction. Emotions sway but intellect grounds you.
