The years I spent in the UK were some of my favorite, but I feel like this time will be different.

Last time I was there with all my friends, and now we are all scattered to the winds.

Say hello to Nigel for us.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

UK left EU. I've heard there have been ramifications...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The UK is also in a pretty bad place right now. Actually, so are most other english speaking nations...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Trust me it's way worse. Goodluck 🫡

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How so

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the US is now what the UK was for hundreds of years. Just with more primative weapons.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eh, I spent ten days in Scotland last year and never had a bad meal.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You do know the NHS isn't all that great anymore, right?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Still free tho

If I every have to escape, I'm going to Australia. Already got family there

1 month ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Lucky. I have tried to get out, it is difficult.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Careful, their spiders are racist

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They’re just angry because bored Australians keep trying to fuck them. Or maybe they’re frustrated because busy Australians haven’t got time to fuck them. I’m not sure tbh, you’ll have to ask the spiders

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t forget about the snakes, scorpions, sharks, crocs, jellyfish, drop bears, dingos, cassowaries and other things. Oh and it’s all hotter than the sun.

I'm heading to the Netherlands in a few weeks, with no plans ever to set foot in North America again.

1 month ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Welcome to Europe!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is where I'd go.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not a fan of chilly weather, but Netherlands has an optimal social structure for me, and by good fortune, I also have some family already living there.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats! About everything in the Netherlands is lovely, except the language, which is silly

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Easy to learn apparently. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UhpbFelysyo

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Word order in Dutch sentences is very different from English. Vocabulary is a snap, but 2.5 years into Duolingo, I still screw up a lot. I can understand it fairly well but have a hard time composing it properly.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God speed. Congratulations kn getting out.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I wish I could. But I'm poor.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thats unfortunately most of us

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In comes "Reform" with its bullshit.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

With Labour doing dismally in the polls they just had a by election and Reform lost to the Greens. So the Reform bandwagon might already have run out of steam.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bring a case of peanut butter.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

You can get peanut butter there, better selection than in Germany too.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I never felt like there's anything wrong with the peanut butter selection we got here, but now I'm curious what fucked-up stuff you got in the UK. Fish peanut butter? Vinegar peanut butter? Curry peanut butter? ... Actually, the last one sounds worth trying.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

As far as I recall you can get skippy and jif there, with mixed flavours (chocolate & marshmallow). Been 11 years since I was last there. They even have Costco.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The UK isn't a safe place to flee too.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I'm not fleeing =S

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm not fleeing the US. I guess we're both in for it.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

UK is perfectly safe. Don't believe everything you see online

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats. The UK isn't perfect, but compared to the US it's a fucking paradise.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

But you won’t be in this shithole country anymore

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh, they have all of the seasonings, except for some local favorites (Old Bay, Slap Yo Mama, etc..) - they just don’t fucking use them.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

You can homemake Old Bay and other spice blends and customize them to your liking. Ex: https://www.simplyrecipes.com/old-bay-seasoning-recipe-7552674

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Says who? I guess Americans, who's primary contribution to the cullinary arts is covering everything in shitty cheese have to deflect somehow.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Old Bay is pretty easy to find, either in a larger supermarket or online

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Time to make some new friends

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget to drive on the wrong side of the street and to measure your speed in kilometers per wicket! Seriously, though, good luck with the change, hope it works out.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They use mph. As a Canadian, that was weird.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It was intended for an united statesian. All our jokes about foreign countries are weird and ignorant. You should be well aware of that.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's super weird

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When I moved to Canada after growing up in the UK it was hard work explaining to people that the roads still use MPH & yards but everything else is metric...apart from people weight, which is a god damn STONE!

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They do have fucking amazing Indian food. Also, tea.

1 month ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 1

In my last trip to Europe, it was interesting how difficult it was to find tea outside of the UK. Especially in France, where they prefer wine or coffee (I don't drink alcohol, and I don't like coffee). Here in Canada, it's nearly as easy as in the UK; at the very least, there are plenty of breakfast places that serve tea, and every coffee shop will serve tea as well. (Although in Canada, I do have my own kitchen and kettle, so I don't have to go to those places to get tea.)

I'm going with my daughter in May. Got so many things I want to see and eat, Indian among them.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best thing is the beer, wait that's Irish....

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did they Britishfy the Indian food though? I want my Indian food to burn my face off.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah, the UK has some insanely good Indian food, and im pretty sure they all know the difference between spicy and white people spicy, and they seem to know who can handle what version

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And beans for breakfast!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bangers!!!!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And mash

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I moved to Australia

Say hi to the Heelers for me. Also, the huntsman spiders

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not to mention i can go back to my Turkish barber who slaps my head, lights my ears on fire, and throws a hot towel on my face

Great British bake-off!!!

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Order Rington's tea. It's the best.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wish I could give you more upvotes, fellow ringtons connoisseur

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do we even need to mention the ginger biscuits or is it just acknowledged? 😂

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Taylors Yorkshire Tea. In a mug. With milk and seven sugars.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dang it, you just cost me £20. I just had to order a Ringtons' Mothering Sunday gift box for my Mum, which obviously wasn't so that I could try their tea, cakes, and biscuits too. Obviously.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I no longer live in the UK so I do these giant orders of like £100 and end up gifting people teabags and biscuits for the next lie of months. 😂

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to rain on your parade, but that's a bit of a "shat my pants so I changed my shirt" type of switch up. The UK is a bit of an Orwellian hellscape.

1 month ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 12

Where does the Daily Mail say that?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the UK is in a race with a couple of other European countries to see which one will become the USA of Europe lol.

I moved a few years back to one of those other European countries (wasn't my first choice but for my partner) and we were thinking of spending a couple of years in the UK. The current state of affairs there means that's probably not gonna happen, though trying to find a country that isn't proactively worsening is proving... difficult.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's still leagues better than the US. They have gun control, universal healthcare, and better schools.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People who can just switch countries aren't typically in a position where they'd need to worry. This person looks to be active military, so they might be getting stationed there.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Even if you'd prefer a 10, a 6 is still better than a 2.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Despite what the media want you to believe, reform are not what the UK want. They keep standing in by-elections convinced they’ll be welcomed with open arms but are rejected every time. They only have one MP who was standing as reform. The others are turncoat tories

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

trump isnt threating to bomb them (yet) and depending when they leave they might be able to avoid the draft for ww3

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Next year's a long way off. WW3 might be over by then. Hard to cross an ocean as an irradiated corpse.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

with less gun violence, and more healthcare tho

1 month ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 4

Less knife violence too, about half per capita compared to the US.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Dont forget they hosted and protected pedophiles like Trump and Andrew.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 20

yeah, but unless op is a child, it's irrelevant here

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Leaving one fascist shithole for another, best of luck

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 10

Tell me you know nothing about the UK without saying it.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

How many has America indicted? 0?

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We havent protected Trump, thats on America.

As for hosting him, yeah? Who hasnt? I mean unless you want to go live on Pillau you're kinda out of luck there.

And Andrew is so completely fucked that we might have to actually revise our laws regarding treason before we try him in order to avoid having to execute him.

Meanwhile America has decided to export its problems abroad once again.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How's Andrew doing these days?

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Definitely well off than he ever deserved it seems. Not surprising UK is a two-justice system when they fund and support Israeli war crimes while arresting its own citizens for opposing a genocide.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It is? I live here and I haven't noticed.

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Just this morning, Nick Robinson asked a guest on BBC Today (so on state tv) if protests against the war 'should be allowed to go ahead' or 'ought to be banned in this country'. Just FYI, hope it helps you wake up to thefasciat shithole you are living in.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Did you miss the bit where literally thousands of peaceful protesters were arrested and charged? Or the bit where trans people have been banned from using public bathrooms? Or the policy of letting migrants die in the sea, and EVEN FOR PEOPLE AWARDED REFUGEE STATUS having a "hostile environment policy" to pressure them to leave, then there's your government which explicit supports genocide, implicitly supports pedophiles, & keeps trying to remove juries from trials to ""speed up the process"""

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Half your libraries have closed due to building defects, and the other half are in danger of closing because of budgets being slashed, oh and the head of your government (a human rights lawyer) keeps using his influence to pressure venues to cancel gigs by artists he has a vendetta against, and getting the police to harass them with vexatious investigations because they dared to call genocide genocide.

That's just the stuff off the top of my head, I know there's more.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're forgetting the part where polling places the party that were recorded saying they want a paramilitary on the coast to shoot immigrants is in the lead. That we are an enemy of the internet and a surveillance / nanny state. Or the part where they rolled back environmental protections for water pollution. Or the part where we Brexited out of mostly racism / xenophobia / oligarch class influence. Or the part where we have fuckstains glazing over all the shit we're doing for some reason.
