I'm sure they are already pivoting towards BRICS for when it takes over for the Dollar as the currency running the markets. The dollar will collapse completely.
If the dollar collapses, it'll happen very, very slowly and then all at once. However, despite the problems we do have we still have a *very* robust actual economy. When you look at the things produced here, the actual value of the labor being performed, we still have a lot of value to offer.
Dump just says this is the greatest economy ever... never saying the greatest for who? Ive got a sneaky suspicion he's not talking about the people of the US.
The monetization of AI has many flaws. The wealthy didn't think it through, because this is just another "spaghetti bowl toss" to see what sticks. Just like the dot.com boom of the late 90's. I remember those days. Capital investment firms throwing a few million here and there at each start-up. Then one start-up goes viral on the stock market upon IPO and they make a killing. Then ENRON happened.
And just like the dot.com boom of the 90's, there's *real* value in the technology, we just don't yet know how to use it or have the infrastructure for it.
They are completely out of ideas, so they're all in on the only way they think they can continue to make money forever. But there is absolutely no way for it to ever turn a profit...
Also, for anyone that considers themselves an investor, the top 10% wealthiest americans own 93% of all privately held stocks, and just the 1% own a full 50%
You are not an investor, you are a gambler, but it's important that you THINK you're an investor so you don't question everything done to protect the personal interests of a small handful of actual investors, at your expense.
It didn't actually grow 16%, the dollar just dropped a lot (dollar dropping means the same stuff costs more dollars, that also applies to stocks) Real growth was only 4%. So in reality, the year was just pretty much flat.
It's a bit more complicated, since it depends on international trades which the big companies that carry the market for to a huge extent do a lot, but basically roughly yes
People acting like politics dont have a place here have a very narrow world view. And if they want to put their head in the sand while the world burns around them, well that is not our problem. Tag, dont tag who cares. The tag warriors can fuck off.
Countless non-Americans already know America is a fucked-up shithole. If they don't want to see an endless barrage of reminders, I can't blame them for blocking things. I mean they aren't in any position to do anything about it here. Their concern should be preventing the same thing from destroying their own country.
The thing you are missing is that many times this site has been one of few methods of communication to get ideas out of war zones or oppressive governments. And block them or not, becoming down vote machines over it is different.

So AI stock gains, while the median stock ticker (and human) had a loss?
pgdave
No, AI stocks didn't grow by such an incredible amount as to offset an actual loss.

Until the bubble pops and we are all in food lines because these AI idiots are going to crash the global economy.

FoxySpirit
If real growth was only 4% and the rest inflation, that would put the inflation at a whopping 10%. Does this check out?

To be honest, this would not be specific to this administration....
wadatahmydamie
It is. Biden’s economy grew across the board, and the stock market went up.
pgdave
There have been other times where markets were up and unemployment was up, i.e. this isn't a unique situation.
pompoikpoik
2009, market and unemployment were both going up
wadatahmydamie
Yeah, the Bush economy was fucked all right. Biden fixed that too. It was his primary responsibility in the Obama administration.
pompoikpoik
Are you in love with Biden?

It’s objective reality. If objective reality makes you feel like sucking cock, that’s great, but don’t make it someone else’s problem.

If you edit your post and _only_ change the tags it should save the tags properly.
