Settle down mate, "weren't" in place of "wasn't" is acceptable in some locales. Particularly Britain which is, y'know, where English came from in the first place.
Ah yes, the classic "mock someone for a minor grammar mistake, despite 'incorrect' usage of the word 'weren't' being common usage and/or slang in some regions of the world". Did you mean for this tactic to be belittling or invalidating?
We did a while unit in early high school science about how "sounds are made when objects vibrate". Question on the test was "true/false: we make sounds by vibrating our tongue". I was so confused and later maddened when my "true" answer was marked wrong.

By that logic, so were hundreds of people throughout the history of the English language. Just like evolution of animals and plants, you don't have to like it, and you don't have to accept it, but it happens anyway.
