I may just be a large, bearded Viking-American, but I've got a special place in my heart for work stories and adorable comics. That and funny stuff...

US Constitution Article 1, Section 4

“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”

Congress can change how elections work any time they want by just passing a law……. Which means it’s impossible to change.

The federal government could absolutely do that if they wanted to. It would just take Congress passing a law……….… actually, you’re probably right, it’s impossible.

You absolutely can. We just don’t. Are there some valid reasons not to? Sure. But the entire country wouldn’t just collapse if we did. In fact, some places do and they still function just fine.

The BMV already has to offer to register you whenever you’re in there getting, renewing, or updating a license. Just swap that to make it automatic. “Voter registration” is stupid as fuck anyway. I don’t have to register to be a taxpayer or a citizen so why do I need to fill out a whole-ass separate form to vote.

National holiday plus mandatory 16hr/day polling stations open for two full weeks leading up to it plus free and easy mail-in voting all sounds eminently doable.

Unless they intercept it, that is correct.

This is not true for any of the legit VPN companies. PIA, Nord, Proton, Surfshark… all have no logs policies and a number of those have been tested in courts where the companies have told the government they are unable to turn over data, even with a subpoena because there isn’t any.

They can see you connecting to the VPN. Traffic flows from your device to the overseas server. They may not be able to see where it goes after hitting the VPN but they can absolutely see the connection between your device and the VPN.

You are laboring under the mistaken belief that my refusal to pretend they aren’t human means I’m unwilling to oppose them. Just because I recognize they are just as human as I am does not mean I would be unwilling to defend myself or others when the need arose.

The worst examples of humanity are still human. Pretending they’re not is just pretending humanity isn’t capable of the evils we commit.

I did not realize Rescue Rangers started 7 years before Space Jam. They seemed contemporaneous in my memory.

You’re not giving Lola Bunny enough credit here.

You should watch “For All Mankind” since that’s pretty much the premise of the show. Well, that and “what if the Cold War never ended?”

It’s not going to help you move to another country either. All those better, “more welcoming” countries don’t exactly make their immigration process easy.

If you want to go out with a bang, you don’t have to involve everyone else. Go talk to a therapist.

They will if they give Trump a plane or buy a bunch of his crypto.

A military has literally never turned on its government to save the people. They’ve followed rebellious generals, revolted for food or pay, turned their guns on people forcing them to fight losing wars, and seized power from weak civilian leaders to advance themselves…

But turning on their superiors just because it’s the right thing to do? No. That doesn’t happen. The military weeds out people likely to take independent moral action. You can’t have morals get in the way of killing on command.

Yeah. Dishonorable discharge means you will never have a decent job or decent apartment again in your life.

I had to clear the lowest level security clearance there is to work tech support for a company that scheduled health checks for army reservists.

It was the most intense screening I’ve ever been involved in. Every address, every job, every school, all needed details and a unique reference unrelated to me plus another 5 unique references not related to me. All had to remember me, be willing to vouch for my character, and be able to validate what I said.

GOP reps could NEVER

That and Dijon mustard were the things conservatives got mad about. Not my fault they’re stupid as fuck.

Sure they are. But if you’ve already run through their whole playbook, they’re much more likely to hand you off to someone who can actually help you.

Dammit. 16 months ago. And I’m pretty sure my math is still off on that one. Really wish Imgur let you edit comments.

Only 1/3rd opposed it enough to bother to vote against it 6 months ago. America can lie with its sins until such time as it takes action to remove the regime they’ve appointed.

But for the typical illness, this means you just call and say “I’m sick” then don’t go to work and nothing happens.

Obviously it doesn’t mean you can just get a job once every two years then call in sick on your second day and get paid for the next 24 months while you sit on your ass.

You gotta slip in some shit the L1 guy won’t understand to convince them to pass you up the line. “I already restarted it” doesn’t get you far but “I ran dnsflush, apt upgrade, updated the NIC driver, and reset the modem but it’s still not connecting. Can you validate the MAC is still on the allowlist for the network?” tends to get you handed off to the senior tech pretty quick.
