Infrared and UV components of the sun's blackbody radiation are blocked by the atmosphere, and what gets though is almost entirely visible.
Visible light is almost the entirety of what hits the surface of the Earth, hence why our eyes use it
For those requiring more explanation: if all light is absorbed and converted to heat and electricity, no light escapes = black.
