The very fact that the models are NOT stick thin is what I appreciate the most about your posts. It’s nice to see media that reflects that people come in all shapes and sizes.

Bezos’s ex Mackenzie Scott has actually given out money without attaching a lot of requirements. She donated to a former employer of mine and there was no big hoops to jump through and no need to report back afterwards. She basically wanted to know if it was an effective organization that could do something useful with some extra cash, and she didn’t attach strings to it. Really refreshing attitude.

After Sandy Hook, I had a moment of thinking that maybe that was finally horrific enough to let us have meaningful progress on gun control. It didn’t happen.

They had a bunch of online webinars on bystander intervention. They offered multiple variations (like antisemitism, xenophobia, online harassment, etc.) that people could choose from, all free. Looks like that’s all gone now

She’s complaining about the long walk to school carrying a heavy backpack, which has not just her school things in it but also her water bottle and an apple. And do you know how much those things weigh? Kilos! It’s like a backpack in a backpack.

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. Quite possibly the best Regency romance ever written, both funny and emotionally moving. It takes a very common character type (the male love interest being a rake or a rogue) and does it to perfection. He really is awful, and yet 100% worth rooting for the happily ever after.

Right? Like, where does he think the federal government’s money comes from?

I don’t have any cats right now and have had to catch my own mice, which is not ideal. Although I’m still the one who needs to dispose them, so at least that hasn’t changed.

Weather Channel was still saying Gulf of Mexico this morning. I don’t watch enough to know if anyone there has started using the other name, but at least one person hasn’t

Everyone who voted for Harris knows. Everyone who voted for Trump doesn’t. And the eligible voters who didn’t bother to vote at all either don’t know or don’t care.

Also, 1 would be really annoying when it’s windy and the tie starts being blown around

NCMEC does a ton of work with law enforcement to find missing kids and to protect kids and rescue them from sexual abuse. They also work to get abusive videos and photos of kids off the internet and help law enforcement catch perpetrators. So threatening their funding is basically saying political beliefs are more important than children’s lives and safety. It’s sickening—even if it’s what we expect from this administration.

The burger cups got me. I didn’t know it was possible to feel sad while looking at a burger and veggies.

She’s not taking credit for it. She says right at the beginning of the video that it’s a quote, and she names the author.

I’ve had multiple cuddly cats. But I rarely picked them up; if they wanted attention, they came to me, so I was safe to be around.

The HSUS can’t go after dogfighters on their own (they have no law enforcement powers), but they pass any tips they get on to the relevant authorities, and they do work with law enforcement agencies who are going after dogfighting rings. When I worked there some years back, they had rescue team staffers who were specifically in charge of coordinating with law enforcement on animal fighting cases, and I would expect it’s still a priority now.

People should think of “humane society” as a term like “hospital” or “university.” Independent organizations use the term in their name, and it’s not meant to imply that they’re connected.

That’s referring to the other folks at American Idol, who don’t want to have to deal with questions about Trump or Carrie Underwood performing at the inauguration.

Yeah, why is anyone assuming she’d have to go to a sketchy tattoo artist to get this done? This guy proved willing to ignore his own self-imposed age restriction to do the tattoo. Who’s to say another tattoo artist with proper procedures wouldn’t have done it? It’s such a weak argument

I was hoping someone would have posted this!
