This is canon now (in my head at least).

Yep, we had something similar (but much smaller) when we lived in a small town. Not a ton of cats, but our local vet would spay / neuter strays for cheap, so we'd catch (gently) the ones we could to help control the local population. And adopt, we adopted so many.
I have loved many a stray furball who appreciated a good home, even if for a short time.

Right, that's what school is for. Just my opinion as a burned out millennial "former gifted child" now that I'm an adult, all I can see is a system that conditions the "top" students to normalize salaried overtime (and it worked on me for a while). School is for schoolwork, all other time is NOT school time. It is for learning other things, maybe volunteering, or a hobby, or a job.

Oh at my darkest, these thoughts have intruded. Even had a little "campaign" in my head. Strike if you can, or weaponize your mental illeness." But you're right, that's how you get Hamas.

Police car window*

I concur. Reminded of a story I heard when I was a kid about a homeless man who asked if he could sleep in a cell on a freezing night. Nope, turned away. Threw a rock through a police card window, walked back in, admitted what he'd done, and asked again. The cops replied, "Yep, come on back."
And that's my problem with society. It would have cost the system, government, taxpayers LESS to give that man a warm bed for the night. But that doesn't "breed innovation or "increase market share."

Lots of things, teaching other inmates to read, food prep, but mostly what you see is hard physical labor when they leave the prison. "Cheap contract labor who can't form a union and can be punished for refusing to work, or unable to work fast enough.

I also attributed it to Davie Bowie's passing, but as the last Elf had left middle earth. Nothing but fucking humans left. Those guys suck.

Literally falling apart at the death of my father in law. We weren't even close. So tired of hurting, being consumed by feelings, falling apart. If it wasn't for wifey and kittens, I think I would have hard time finding a point.

Thank you!

Honestly, the rich would find a way to circumvent it. Put the property in a trust, have the homes owned by children / businesses. Etc. The real problem is that our laws are mostly income based at this point. If you have the money to hire the "good" lawyers, you can get away with most everything (except stealing from other rich people).

County, not country

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I read about a country in Vermont that requires a 15-20 year financial analysis of big business coming in. End of the day, it's ALWAYS worse for the town / county in the long run to bring in big business and provide they with the EXPECTED tax breaks.

Basically you want the biggest lawful evil psychopath in a CEO. The most successful ones get paid a lot of money to build insane amounts of wealth, whatever means necessary. Big business WILL NOT have a bad year, and it's the CEOs job to make sure that happens. Legal or no, fire 20% of your employees to make numbers this quarter? CEO isn't losing sleep over it, he'll glad sacrifice most anything for short term gains. That's literally his job. So fucked up. Capitalism fucking sucks.

To the point though, if we add 4 new senators and I dunno, 4 more electoral votes, all the current models election models break. And since they've basically been using the same model since Nixon, they'd have a lot of work to do to maintain power.

The conservative nightmare is that ANY true change to the nation's voting system is likely to lean to the democrats. When more people show up to vote, the overall vote swings towards the left. That's why the electoral count, gerrymandering, and voter suppression are tools that the right hold to so hard. It's why local and state elections are so important. If we had ranked voting, more parties, and mandatory voting, the conservative power would shrink drastically.
