Yeah, I was saying the same thing 10 years ago about Brexit. A few well-connected people made a lot of money, a lot of people that don't matter got wrecked, absolute success for the people in Club Billionaire.

Also, to be perfectly clear: Fuck Club Billionaire, and I hope justice is served.

That's almost certainly true.

It is kind of interesting that he's taking this tactic of not admitting the circumstances; Suggests to me that whatever order was refused needs to be concealed.

Shows Hegseth's lack of experience, since any other person in that seat would have implied it was due to operational security; Instead he went hostile and insisted he doesn't owe congress anything.

It's weird how often Trump's random mistakes seem to wind up helping Putin's oil industry, you know? Grr, angry old man hates wind turbines because he's confused! Green energy is an enemy of the USA! Let's set the whole Persian Gulf on fire, whoopsie-daisy!

I mean, it's Julie Andrews, dressed as Mary Poppins, singing "Supercalifragiliciousexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins, so...probably?

Even if you don't agree with his argument, I really appreciate that he's framing this danger in a way that even the AI evangelists can't dispute.

"Oh, your miracle technology is going to let us lay off all the pencil-pushers so we can raise profits? You understand the economy relies on *not* firing everyone, right? If the only people making money are AI companies, the whole thing collapses, and your tech-bros go down with everyone else."

Might reach some hardliners, I dunno

Anybody who isn't familiar should look up "Operation Ajax". Long story short: Iran tried to democratically organize to evict the predatory British Petroleum company, and the British convinced the CIA it was good for business to destabilize the region for profit.

Perhaps it's time to consider lucrative opportunities in the field of espionage. After all, you are trained in culvert operations

To be honest I was 9 and playing a pirated copy without instructions, so a lot of things could have gone wrong.

Still, I'm loving the nostalgia.

Just to be clear, the deeper issue that we're pointing out is that guardrails are applied AFTER the model has already developed it's internal logic. In other words, we're not setting a foundation of ethics, we're trying to wrangle something inherently feral into behaving ethically.

It's not a robot, it's a trained chimp, and anybody telling you it can't possibly disobey has spent too long spanking his monkey

Before you worry about damnation, you should probably consider what has happened every time one of those sects takes power; It doesn't take long before the other 39,999 sects are just as heretical as the atheist or the Jewish person.

If this was somehow related to POTUS, the Secret Service would investigate it as a threat. Why can't we treat it as a threat here? Is this not illegal?

Remember how they all decided the Statue of Liberty was "too woke" for a minute? Performative douchebaggery at it's finest.

I'd be more smug if it didn't seem to be working for them

One of the Day One Executive Orders that never got any news coverage: Nobody on the administration's staff is subject to background checks, and is automatically granted maximum clearance without delay.

That...bothered me.

Whether this was his idea or not doesn't make a difference here - hear me out.

Every war in history, the leader stands up and says something like "We are going to Do This Thing. It's the right thing to do, or it's absolutely necessary and unavoidable, or it will bring huge benefits to our people for generations. Peace, Prosperity, Glory, Honor, we get there by fighting and winning."

Is this the *first time* anybody has gone to war and the leader just... doesn't seem to even have an opinion?
