I don't need retribution. I need him to not actively be my, or anyone else's fucking problem anymore.

Yep, also, we are falling back into the trap of his first term where people are convinced he is an evil genius with a subtle plan. He is not. And neither are the people around him. He does everything he does because he is too fucking stupid to know that isn't how anything works and his pissant backers are either too stupid or too spineless to point it out. So they attempt to pretend this IS how it works and always has been. I assure you, none of the subtle things you think are happening are.

There is no court injunction for this because there is no pathway for them to DO that. There is nothing for them to misinterpret, and since THEY don't run the damn elections, them saying "nuh-uh, they are cancelled" is completely meaningless. There is literally no avenue for him to do anything. There is no way to do that by force or law. What would "cancelling the election" even LOOK like? Martial law in California? ALL of California? It is literally logistically impossible.

To be VERY clear. I am not saying they are above TRYING that, I am just saying that attempting that would be SO unprecedented and obviously outside of their authority that any attempt to actually ENFORCE it would entirely invalidate the legitimacy of their governance in a legally justifiable way that would have even many of his supporters enraged (like they were when they floated banning firearms at protests)

Nor am I suggesting we don't push back if it were to pass. VERY MUCH THE OPPOSITE.

I mean, the thing is this isn't even a "they can't justify this" thing, there isn't any mechanism or anything they could even cite to try to misrepresent the situation into justifying. The federal government isn't even involved in if and how elections are run. That is managed entirely by the state, so even if they SAID the elections are cancelled, California would just run them anyway... so AT BEST he could tell his little cult followers not to vote. and.... sure?

Yeah, none of this is how our government actually works. And if he steps that far out of legitimacy then other options that have not yet been justifiable, will become necessary. They would not be prepared for the shitstorm that would produce and enough of his chicken shit staff and lickspittles would see the writing on the wall and bail on him to resolve the situation relatively quickly. Cowards will always act like cowards.

All. the. time. I get people all "Aren't you cold?" and usually I'm not even really consciously aware of the temperature, let alone cold. Like... I'm sorry my metabolism and circulation are sufficient to keep me comfortable in most climates?

lol I do, and if necessary, I would clean the bathroom, of course. It was more of a disclaimer, like "If you want to use the bathroom or want me to be anywhere other than the bathroom, you might prefer me not be the one doing it"

Man, My wife thought I was trying to get out of things when I told her it is best if I don't clean bathrooms because once I start, I won't fucking stop. Because it just is never finished being clean. Too many corners and small things that have to be moved to reach them, and those things weren't very well organized anyway, so I have to reorganized when I put them back, but first, since the cupboard is empty anyway, might as well take this time to clean the p-trap and....

A surprising number of newer fantasies address that. Or at least acknowledge it. Not defending feudalism, just an interesting development in the consciousness of fantasy writing.

Yep! It is funny through history how we consistently discovered that hereditary rule was primarily the problem. You could have a good king, and sometimes his son was a good king, but I can't think off the top of my head any that made three generations. There are a few times that the leadership was passed through some other means like the king choosing his successor based on their fitness to rule, but those always devolved into hereditary rule pretty quick... often forced by the inheritor.

#32 I take issue with this "I'm MapQuest old" shit. I still carry maps in the glove box.

okay, so, no. You were not on the internet 10 years ago. Got it. Also.... are... you trying to say that the dog is AI? Because that dog is present in other photos... some with obvious filters, I might add. The addition of the background could have been AI, sure... but there is no reason it HAS to be. Background filters (yes even with light effects) have existed for a long time. Even if it WAS AI, adding a background to a photo hardly qualifies as slop. Chill out.

God damnit. Not only is your beard game on point, but your mustache frames your cheekbones. Over here with your perfect facial hair. I'm gonna go shave in shame.

yoink! Stealing that with no remorse! I shall trade you one upvote.

Maybe she is a 1600’s french peasant?

I swear to god, today has been nothing but people forgetting that filters have existed for like 15 years

Were you not on the internet like 10 years ago? I'm not being snarky, that is an honest question. Basically every selfie at the time went through a softening filter.... or the full on Portrait filter. For that matter your phone likely has the same filter. It is an effect that existed long before AI

that's called a filter.

I don't see it

I mean, this comes off as a touch passive aggressive, but people need to hear that sentence. I spend so much time telling new people that if them being sick or seeing their kid's play or whatever puts me in a tight spot, that is MY staffing and planning fail and solving it rightly SHOULD be my problem, not theirs. That's literally my job.

I'm not gonna try to make them feel like having a family or.... biology is a personal failing and an intentional slight towards me. That's fucking bananas

I mean, that is all it was from the beginning anyway, so I suppose it is only fitting

My least favorite is adobe pdf viewer AI.... because wtf is it even supposed to do?! I'm already LOOKING at the god damn pdf! What are you going to do? Look at it for me?!

I imagine she is saying "nazi problem" the way someone might say a bread that failed to rise has a "yeast problem"

Well, if you watch the video in the article, which isn't as unnecessarily cropped, you can see him drive around to the other row to get a better look at what is happening, and then a bit later he does like a 14 point turn to turn around and head away, but at the veeeerry end of the video, it cuts back to a wide shot and, while there aren't enough pixels to be sure, it LOOKS like he is parked sideways over by the entrance where the fire truck is coming in.

I mean sure. I inadvertently asked AI to identify a pic and this was the result. Forgive me if I am skeptical of the legal and surveillance applications of tech in identifying you by your gait.

The part that is amazing to me is the absolute willingness to completely rewire their own memory to make it fit. I mean, this is hardly the first example but... they were fucking alive at the time that this would have happened. You'd think they would remember this having happened with their own memories, cuz you god damn know they wouldn't have shut up about it if there were bulldozers on the white house lawn.... you know... if it wasn't being done by this idiot.

What about running away? Does running away at the slightest pushback make it true? Surely her point is no longer valid if they get far enough away before she finishes it!
