Amiable zany from Washington state, with a penchant for weird and thinky stuff. I know things . . . about . . . THINGS. I post once per weekend, usually nothing but my own OC. Sometimes it hits the FP, sometimes it gets downvoted to oblivion, but it's all of fairly decent quality. I am not responsible for the caprices of the Usersub randomizers.

Well, I *thought* I was drawing accurately from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_presidents_of_the_United_States , but it seems I misremembered: Different panels of experts have conflicting views, of course, but the average consensus seems to be that Nixon was slightly the *better* of the pair. I guess I mentally ranked him lower because I personally judge Presidential ethics to be (somewhat) more important than Presidential abilities.

We can make his gallows look like this, as a little treat.

Meanwhile, those same lawmakers go up in arms if anyone tries to restrict or limit sales of ACTUAL GUNS.

Unfortunately (for Croesus), the effort was a disaster; the only victories he got were Pyrrhic ones, costing him many casualties. The campaign ended inconclusively, and Croesus returned home with nothing to show for it but a much smaller army. But the Persians followed him back, defeated him soundly, and sacked his capital. Croesus was the last king of Lydia, which fragmented & was absorbed by its neighbors. The oracle was proved right. [2/2]

"History has a tendency to repeat itself?" Strap in.

Croesus (died 547 BC) was a Greek king famed for his vast wealth. During his reign as king of Lydia (a big chunk of modern-day Turkey), he was focused on acquiring more territory, so when neighboring Persia was having difficulties, Croesus asked the Oracle at Delphi if he should invade. The answer he got was, "If Croesus attacks the Persians, he will destroy a great empire!" Pleased by such a promising answer, he launched his campaign. [1/2]

Wait, Netanyahu is alive?? The last I saw of "him" were those two bad AI clips released to "prove" that both he & Israel were perfectly fine.

Happily, he can only pardon crimes on the Federal level.

How much time do we have to stop/reverse this? Will the midterms be soon enough?

The mechanisms to keep public outcry suppressed have been WELL oiled and practiced by now. There is almost nothing we can say that we haven't already said 100 times before.

The new standard of lying is not simply to lie: First you pretend that what you want to be true already IS true, and then you "support" your claim by pretending it is already accepted / popular. People spend less time questioning the veracity / validity of your statements if presented with the IDEA that other folks are going along with it. A self-fulfilling bandwagon effect.

Even Nixon was measurably worse than GW Bush. We have reached the time when Nixon was too far back for most Imgur users to remember.

Literally ALL he had to do was climb over the damn thing and call an Uber.

Even if that "something" that he did was a badly planned, uncoordinated fuck-up that achieved nothing except killing a bunch of innocents, screwing up the global economy, and making Iran objectively STRONGER?
