You're getting it wrong; SS is not issuing bonds, it was buying them.

The government issues bonds all the time, and they are considered to be the safest investment possible. Prior to 2010, Social Security brought in more than it sent out, meaning it had excess cash on hand.

It needed to invest that money, just like you invest in your 401k. SS invested that cash in the safest investment possible, US Treasury bonds, just like banks and individuals do. And the Treasury keeps paying them back.

By California standards, sure, it's not that big of a wildfire. By Los Angeles standards, they're pretty huge. It's not a fire that's way off in the mountains where they usually happen, it's within the city limits of the second biggest city in the country.

When the Mafia already owns the ferries, why would they make competition for themselves? Plus, closer integration with the mainland means more influence from Rome, which they absolutely don't want.

They might make a quick buck on the bridge, but long-term, they prefer the status quo.

Then the elephants love you, and the elephants never forget.

I don't know how you guys do it. I've got a 1000 piece puzzle that's been sitting on the kitchen table unfinished for months now, though it doesn't help that all that's left is a relatively plain bluish-green sky...and I'm colorblind. Finding one piece takes 5-10 minutes and there's still a couple hundred to go!

Worst part is, it's a pretty cheap puzzle and many pieces will fit together that don't actually go together.

#27 That's the neat part: they don't. All credit bureaus (and there's more than the big 3) are private companies that collect your data and sell it.

#10 While it's pretty tone deaf, it's no more so than Memorial Day sales.

The deal has a clause that effectively gives the "investors" guaranteed money. If revenue would drop, the city has to make up the difference. That's the $79 million the video mentioned.

I mean, yes, it's also quite obvious when someone isn't holding your hand back, and it's pretty easy to distinguish flesh vs plastic, but let's just have fun for now!

Yeah, every one of these measurements was made to measure something specific. Why would you need to convert the weight of a person (stone) to the weight of coins (pounds)? Miles were made to measure walking distance, feet were made to measure things you could pace out. Why would there be any relation between the two of them?

A year cannot evenly be divided into days because they measure two completely different things, and there's no reason those two things need to be related to each other.

The best sex in the world is not guaranteed to give you a sense of fulfillment, and can come with people who will hurt you or the risk of hurting others. That's not to say be a prude, but be mindful of why you're having sex and who you're having it with. Make sure both are good for you.

I mod pretty much all of those games, but even without those mods I would never call them "mid". I agree that they all have great modding communities, but the base game is just as enjoyable!

Agree entirely, but it's not just "might" have trauma. The experience of being separated from your birth family is traumatic on its own, and whatever caused the state to remove them was also likely a source of trauma. Foster and adoptive parents 100% need to be aware of how to deal with trauma in kids.

Watching the pets while you're away can be invaluable. My friend used to yell at his dog through the in-built speakers whenever the dog tried to break the rules while he was out.

This is the epitome of "Everything is working, why should I pay you? / Everything is broken, why should I pay you?"

If you've got a better plan to secure systems, then by all means start selling it. If you want to start a company with no security program, try it and see what happens.

The childcare decision has been a thing for a long time. My mom quit her job to be a stay at home Mom over 30 years ago for that reason. She then went back to work as soon as we were old enough to look out for ourselves after school.

From the article:
Social media algorithms were magnifying the trend by drawing "moderately conservative young men towards more extreme and radical conservative male role models and world views".

Counterintuitively, you actually have to throw it backwards behind you to get it to hit the earth. In orbital mechanics, forwards (or prograde) is up, and backwards (or retrograde) is down.

As to reentry survival, probably not. Depends on the aerodynamics of the wrench and how it tumbles through the air, but the fact that it's all metal means it all heats up pretty evenly, and quickly gets to the point where the metal becomes hot enough to bend and break up.

Guys may theoretically be gender neutral, but a lot of guys get oddly offended when I ask them how many guys they've slept with...

For the record, the first "pride" was not the Stonewall riots. It was the one year anniversary of the riots, when a group of folks got together to remember what happened, and began a march to central park. On the way, more and more LGBT people joined the march, and they began to encourage others, sometimes forcefully with a "come out or we'll call you out!" By the end, the crowd was huge.

The realization on that day there are so many of us, and we are not ashamed, is why it's called "Pride."

That's a fair criticism. If you're living paycheck to paycheck it's hard to set aside extra money for retirement. The contribution percentage might be a US vs Canada difference, though; I've yet to have a job outside of part time work that offered less than a 4% match.

In sum, with the assumptions above, a 10% total contribution (yours + match) is needed to get over 100k. If you can't hit that, it's just not feasible to get that level of savings.
