Sargento. They're real cheese people. Alas, they're not real cheesepeople, being made merely of long pork.

They came close to it in the late 90's; the whole Onslaught -> Heroes Reborn arc with Franklin's Counter-Earth feels like a sloppy, overly-ambitious prototype for House of M. These days, though, they'll find any excuse they can to forget that Franklin exists. He's been fridged out of the timestream for the last year to give the Fantastic 4 their 4 back.

Reality manipulation is another matter entirely. That's the case for Franklin Richards and the Scarlet Witch, at least; Legion's always been too convoluted to keep my attention, so I'm not sure about him.

Well, it's true, the only thing consistent about X-Men comics is that they're inconsistent. The best part of the last few years has been their attempt to rationalize many of the suddenly-abandoned plot hooks and inexplicable power shifts of the last half a century, without just retconning them out of existence.

That's *almost* how some incarnations of Doctor Octopus have been portrayed; his own body is paralyzed to some degree, and he has telepathic control over the tentacles; and when he is separated from them or incapacitated, they display some degree of independent sentience.

Precisely. The X-Men comics changed drastically -- much for the better, in my opinion -- a few years ago with the Dawn of X storyline; so Charles is able to walk again, but telekinesis is still, as it always has been, a power that belongs solely to Jean Grey and her children.

The English always ruin all the good stories. Geese and golden eggs? Pah! Pathetic! Tell the kiddos the TRUTH about ass poop capitalism!

...in 2015, actually, but Brandon Urie finally quit touring under the name in March

Technically they broke up 8 years ago... but Brandon Urie finally stopped using the name altogether nearly a year ago

Yep. Complicating things, there is a separate "emotional support animal" clause for *residential* law, meaning you are allowed to keep them in your apartment or house even if pets are otherwise forbidden. This category does not apply to businesses, airports, or any other public place where only service animals are allowed, but some people will still try to loophole it.

Related fun fact: Michigan J. Frog, the dancing fella with the top hat and cane who was parodied as an Alien in Spaceballs, was originally from a single short in 1955. After spending a decade as the mascot of The WB, he was "killed off" in 2005. He was still younger than his trademark ditty, "Hello! Ma Baby", at the time he was created: the tune was first published all the way back in 1899.

So this is what happens if you take the blue pill... trapped inside the matrices.

A key part of the original Interstate system was a requirement for a mile of straight & level road without overpasses every so many miles of highway, so that they could be used as reliable emergency runways for aircraft. Can't land a B52 on train tracks... at least, not if you expect it to take off again within 24 hours.

New Yorkers call it simply Jersey to feel superior. And yeah, from what I found, the house is worth over $5 million, and property tax in NJ is 2.29%.

I mean, he lives in Jersey. Pays about $120k a year in property tax for the "privilege" of living in Jersey. I don't think he's too concerned about "luxury."

Giving it a quick glance, it appears to be the same concept as Once Upon A Time, but without the mind control. Typically, significant revisions to public domain characters are still covered by copyright -- this is why new Wizard of Oz adaptations can't mention the *ruby red* slippers, and Winnie the Pooh can only wear red in parodies.

For everyone else... and for merely being "on-call", rather than actively imprisoned at work... depends on your state law, your union, and your contract.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not quite. "Standby" and "on-call" are two very different things. For federal employees, "standby" means you are ordered to remain at your workplace or living quarters for at least 14 hours a week in addition to your normal work hours. You can eat, sleep, etc. You are not actively engaged in work, but you are not free to leave. Time spent in this state of standby earns anywhere from 5% to 25% of working wages. Add 2.5% if this means being on standby at least 20 Sundays in a year.

There's been at least 5 different major revisions of She-Hulk in the comics; to me, the MCU version mostly resembles the late 80's John Byrne run, where she was a witty 4th-wall breaker who could change form at will -- a female lawyer must have complete mastery over her anger to be taken seriously, as she points out in the show -- but typically preferred to stay green, to be taken "seriously". Despite basically being an even mix of Spidey & Deadpool (who wouldn't come around for few more years).

Um. You know why they call it a "feature-length film", right? Because through the 1950's, shorter serials were the most common type of film. The Marx Brothers, the Bowery Boys, the Three Stooges, Abbott & Costello, and of course Mickey Mouse and the Looney Toons... And on the flip side, there's many "TV specials" that are over an hour long, whether serial in nature or not.

Now, to play the devil's advocate -- it's been over a hundred years since tetraethyllead was first introduced, and in all that time, we've never yet discovered anything remotely as effective. You know how regular gasoline is typically octane 85 to 87, and premium is around 93? Leaded gasoline was octane 105 to 120. Jet fuel still uses it, because we haven't figured out a feasible way to reinvent aircraft engines the way we did with automobile engines.

I feel it's important to mention for anyone who isn't already familiar with XKCD -- Randall Munroe actually does have a degree in physics, and worked as a roboticist for NASA at Langley Research Center before he became a full-time webcomic creator. This isn't just an amusing hypothetical, this is his actual experience.

In this instance, the only way I could see it being truly useful, rather than a way to rapidly churn out masses of distinctly mediocre content, is to emulate voices that can't be recorded, like a deceased actor, or simply a younger version of themselves. Not a situation I would expect audiobooks to encounter very often.
