Problem for realistic deployment of these are that you typically put down a mixed grouping of mines consisting of both (one ani-tank with a number of anti-personell around it), in order to handle all approaches by the enemy. Robots will chew up the anit-personell mines and then lose the front end with an anti-tank mine. Only advantage would be that your path to picking up the pieces would be cleared! Not saying they're bad, just not a silver bullet.
My concern would be the type of mines they can handle. Massive difference between an anti-personel mine and an anti-tank mine.

In Australia you will get charged with manslaughter (assuming the gunman died) for shooting him. Not because they think you did wrong, its simply how the law is applied here. There's several instances of people defending themselves and ending up in jail because that defence (according to the police / judges) went too far -- that includes you not running away when you have the option. In this case shooting an 'unarmed' man presenting no immediate threat would probably have been seen as such.
