The only difference between this guy and 2016 guy, is that his cronies had 8 years to figure out how to enable him even harder. That’s why we’re seeing even more bullshit now, it was always there, just managed slightly better his first term with more “adults” in the room

This desperately needs a follow up. What happened after?!

I’m trending towards less violent, but more broadly consequential crimes, but trying to pin down the right one. Bribery or corruption would be up there. Something that politicians rely on…

Y’all. How can someone be so focused on self-sufficiency and nature, and not believe in SPACE! Like, you pray to pagan gods (probably), but ain’t no sun and moon out there? I’m stumped.

Not my choice, I was 7. Blame my grandma who controlled the invite. On that note, don’t you dare badmouth my Nana!

Grew up in Northern California and was at a Christmas Party with him when I was maybe 7. He read stories to all the kids for an hour or two and we were all ENTHRALLED. I still remember it vividly 35 years later. A kind, kind, funny man who just wanted to spread joy.

Moved in middle school and tried to be someone I wasn’t for 4-5 years. Confidently be yourself, even if that’s not the “masculine” thing to do. Funny thing, is that you’ll be more cool and masculine by being confident in who you are, no matter what that is.

Adding to this, I was a trader in 2016-2018, so my data could be old at this point, but at that time, a few US refineries had exemptions and could import it

I’m a former crude oil trader, funny enough. The answer is “yes”, we are a major importer but there are other buyers. More specifically, there are very specific refineries (Chalmette) that have been designed to run Venezuelan crude oil and want to import it. My best guess is that there are about 6 refineries that buy most of the stuff, and a chunk of them are in the US.

Have to agree with the hypothesis that Trump world has given the average mass shooting perpetrators a sense of hope and alternative outlets for their crazy. They’ll be disillusioned again soon…

Same height, I joke with my wife that in every crowded room, I’m always the 2nd tallest. Always 1 crazy 6’ 8” dude and me there getting silver. For me, it’s stressful being below people’s shoulders, how do short people live without seeing the horizon at all times!!?

Sadly, accurate. Look at every bill the Republicans pass. All the pain hits right after a likely election loss, and all the benefit is immediate, so they have something to rail against when they aren’t in power, even when it’s their own making.

Dems are also at an inherent disadvantage in a fight about government/people, in that they actually care about a functioning government and the wellbeing of the people.

For Republicans, a dysfunctional government and harm to large groups of people is actually a plus, so Dems will always feel the pain more and capitulate. The only real way to fight this is to allow the Republicans to create enough pain that their Main Street voters finally write them off. Or do it like the French Revolution…

Agreed. The more time we give them to fabricate and prepare, the more effective their control will be. We need an immediate mass strike to bring them to their knees before they totally consolidate power, particularly in the military. Time and half measures are not our friends right now…

I’ve got a new theory that the entire plan from vaccine policy to healthcare to tariffs is to 1) increase death rates in marginalized communities, and 2) make it more costly for them to have children. This is all about reversing the great replacement theory and higher birth rates amongst non-white populations.

This feels like the fiber/dot-com bubble all over again. Give it 2-3 years and all of a sudden there are going to be massive date center buildings all over not being used for anything. Get ready for the era of free computing power, right after a brutal period of high electricity prices and AI everywhere…
