Being able to sing in that gravelly voice is such an incredible talent. They also had him sing as Rasputin in the Anastasia movie!

You know those stories about celebrities making really specific requests, like Van Halen requesting a bowl of M&Ms with all the brown ones removed? This is why. It wasn't because they were on a power trip or anything; it was to verify people were actually reading directions.

Yeah, I'm vaguely familiar with the philosophy (but not the name for it, so thank you) yet only one person who did something that stupid in practice of it. If you think things need to change but are pushing the needle the other way, you're part of the goddamn problem.

I haven't seen her in a long time. I hope she has seen it doesn't work and regrets that vote every day.

... didn't mean to hit send that early. Anyway. I think about her sometimes, and if she thinks that stupid, stupid vote was worth it.

I knew someone who was both roughly as leftist as myself, but also more of a pessimist. She admitted voting for Trump in 2016 because she was aggravated with all the complacency, and she thought that if people saw how bad things could get then maybe they'd start to push for real, meaningful change.

Zero foresight, tunnel-vision perspective, no clear objective. Narcissism, ignoring experts, fucking up priorities. Corruption, both in politicans being bought by foreign interests and the dictator's brain rotting in his pumpkin of a skull. And let's not forget: distraction from the Epstein Files.

Sadly, that's as much as many US citizens knew too. Despite all his schemes and bankrupt businesses (including casinos), having dealing with the mafia, or even the racist legacy that he carried on from his father (who Woodie Guthrie wrote about in the song "Old Man Trump")... most people only knew that he had shitty hair, and his name was on "The Art of the Deal". Oh, and maybe his cameo in Home Alone 2.

Because the last 1/3rd needs to receive the message loud and clear: Our standing in this world has been destroyed. The privileges we once enjoyed were not born of American exceptionalism, but cultivated through humanitarian outreach and acting as a responsible leader on the world stage. It's something that was tenuous at best, an ethical tug-of-war over our nation's character -- but now it's gone, and we are facing consequences, and our only hope is to starting building from scratch.

Sure do. Despite the fact that he had far more horrible offenses, and they were publicly known even back then. It's always been a distraction.

Absolutely. My father is heavier on the ADHD spectrum than I am, has plenty of issues with poor organization, short-term memory lapses, tuning out mid-conversation...and to this day still hasn't needed to get diagnosed, nevermind the therapy and medication I rely on. I chalked it up to gender double standards, up until I received a C-PTSD diagnosis and realized that it was the real difference between us. His symptoms never led to traumatic consequences thanks to safety nets I've never had.

It did happen, especially for those of us whose parents relied on hand-me-downs and other thrifty options.

I ripped the back of mine once in elementary, and my parents were both working and couldn't pick me up, so the faculty told me to tie my coat around my waist to hide it. Other kids found out and... they tied their coats the same way, just to help draw attention away.

It's one of my nicer memories of those days.

Seriously. Why invest any more time into it? Why keep setting aside the space in your heart? There's stories out there by better people waiting to be discovered.

If fascists learned from history, they would probably not be fascists anymore.

From all the evidence I've seen, "4D Chess" is how they describe flipping the board into the air and blaming someone else for it.

Shocked Pikachu faces all around as the administration learns betraying and weakening the country will rob them of their own bargaining power. Art of the Deal, amirite?

The first supports the second in a supply and demand kind of way. Filthy shows wouldn't be so salacious if they allowed that kind of content everywhere.

They arent trying to protect you from women's nipples. They want you to have to pay for the privilege.

Bullshitting to present one's own country in the best possible light is pretty normal in politics. And still far better than Trump, who won't hesitate to degrade the USA and its people whenever it allows him to praise himself.

They already aren't listening to it. They're using it as a weapon, not a guide.

"Why is his name on this memorial, and not mine?"

That's awful! What are the poor corporations doing to fight this??

Very likely. Trumpy see, Trumpy do.

I've also heard about Retromops-- aka Pugs with a healthier muzzle length. Personally, I'd be curious if anyone's doing it for German Shepherds, after losing two of mine to degenerative myelopathy.

I can understand obsession with it at the time... kinda. I remember thinking it would be fun to enjoy something so popular. Then I tried it, found it lacking, and moved on to another series to socially disassociate. (I think it was Redwall at the time.)

But by now we should see it was stone soup in book form -- an underwhelming base which was elevated by community investment.

Remember when people used to describe it like a gateway drug to more hardcore reading? As if that taste of fantasy would soon have them devouring entire novels from other series daily?

I wonder how many actually did?

Rad. May you all remain creative and curious, and write things that bring you joy. And if such things would infuriate her, may your joy be all the sweeter for it.

I hope they at least ignore the "muggles cannot understand wizard shit" excuses that smudged up the worldbuilding.

I haven't been able to completely purge them from my thoughts, because people keep bringing them up and the franchise refuses to go away.

Can we, as a society, move on from this piece of pop culture? Please? It's always had its issues, all the way back to the original books, and everything good about it can be found in other books and media.

I'm so tired of real people getting harmed because other real people made these mediocre fantasy books a part of their personality.

It's also hard to imagine anyone realizing how bad it was getting, either. Boomers were raised to believe only rugged individualism would help them survive, despite the fact that new institutions were established to benefit them -- making them exceptionally blind to their own privileges. Meanwhile, the worst of the damage would take decades to set in.

He's obviously guilty. The man cheats at everything, no matter how depraved or petty, and only sees democracy as an obstacle to the things he wants.

But Dems are terrified of bad optics, and too many of them are suckling at AIPAC's teat, so they don't even attempt to hold him accountable.
