An overhead crane with a c-hook. To lift them by chain would have been too slow and cumbersome, as we stored smaller coils on top between 2 large ones. We had ~100 coils in storage, most was moved with railway cars.

Indeed. That is how I loaded them onto trucks while operating a crane in a German steel mill. Suicide load is strictly forbidden here for trucks. Still done for railroad cars, looking like
