I really do not see it as an excuse in any way - two wrongs don't make a right. But people have to stop assuming that some peoples are more cruel than others in war.
Every Soviet crime has to be seen as a crime in 1943-to45, I just hope you understand that this was not 'a Russian thing', but that the Germans did the same if not worse while they were on the advance.

It seems I am too European to understand the problem - is it really so hard to get an ID in the U.S. for certain groups of citizens? In my country the obligation to show official ID (including picture) goes back to at least the 70s if not even the 50s, and it never has been an issue for anybody
