Rather than a disease, I'd say it's a deliberately crafted exploit of naturally present vulnerabilities in the human psyche. The result of bad actors having found a bug/shitty code in human psychology and using it for their own gain, then leaving the exploit running such that it impacts performance regardless of whether it's being actively used by another bad actor (though it usually is).
Strangely, it doesn't sound as bad together as they sound individually. Maybe just my imagination though.
