I had this exact same thing happen to me once, with a toothpick. Dropped in the carpet and walked right into it. Half broke off, half disappeared inside with minimal pain, and wouldn't come out. A week later it was near the surface and I squeezed around it. It popped out like a giant exploding zit. The wood was encapsulated in pus, and shot out cleanly.
