B.Sc in chemistry here. Actual chemistry is a whole lot less interesting in most cases, from doing analytics to reactions it's rare that in the lab you get to do flashy stuff because most of them will get you killed like explosions, toxic vapors and whatnot. The coolest part is understanding what actually goes on the atomic scale, understand why something reacts or not, being able to imagine a chemical reaction, it's results and so on. O-Chem will wreck you if you aren't really involved in it.
