I'm still haunted by William Gobson's throwaway mention in The Peripheral of a weapon they invented (and then banned because it was so horrific) that resembled a washing machine drum bouncing wildly inside a closed room

Millennial here and I was also incredibly tense while watching the launch w my kids. Really wasn't ready to explain four people exploding to my 4 and 2 year-olds
I read the first book. Was so annoyed by the total absence of character development and stupid plotting that I didn't stick it out to read the last two. Did it somehow get better?

That was such a stupid goddamn book. All their technology and the idiot aliens decide to only fuck w key scientists? Why not just blind the whole population? Or mess with the chemical reactions in everyone's bodies and KILL the whole population??? Stupid stupid premise.

Oh sure, all our domestic programs get ripped to shreds, but just think of all the yachts and planes that board members of the defense companies will be able to buy with all that money! Won't someone think of the billionaires? /S
I fostered to ensure rescue dogs had good places to stay outside of shelters while finding their forever people. We almost foster-failed and adopted the first two, but they found good people. But adopting was always an option.
