According to Google, Americano was the result of American soldiers in Italy during WW2 finding espresso too strong for them and trying to recreate their typical black coffee by diluting the espresso.

So, sort of yeah! At least, that was the goal.

Americano is just an espresso diluted with hot water, it's usually a black coffee though you can add milk.

Very outdated and male-centric perspective, but the rule of thumb I was told growing up for what people find acceptable was 'half your age + 7'.

So, for a 22 year old male the youngest it's 'not creepy' to date is 18; when you're 50, less than 32 raises eyebrows.

I should repeat that this is of course sexist bollocks, but it's surprising how often it matches people's default perceptions before they engage their brains.

That was my reading, and it's very nearly true.

Well, I've never bought a diamond! But that may have more to do with income than convictions.

I can see why that would be preferable to believe. If the first of those was true, it's a lot more in our control and can easily be fixed. With the second being true, there's no quick fix and it requires some serious effort to fix, if it ever can be. Makes sense that some people will just deny it outright!
