funnliy enough the main booster engines (right of screen) are four ex shuttle ones, three of them have been in space before, one is factory new. But now all pancaked as the booster crashed into the atlantic a few minutes after this picture was taken

SLS was conceived in the 90s, using shuttle parts (SRBs, RS-25 Engines etc) to reduce costs. The program is going, just very, very slowly due to budget and staff cuts over the last 30 years at NASA. This mission was supposed to launch between 2019-2021, but cuts and delays happened.
