It's a very good joke, struggling with the context

At eye level, and then only if it's in black and white.

I don't blame the kid, but the parents are shitty for not saying like "Hey there." See it all the time at the zoo and playgrounds here - it's like there's two entirely different cohorts of kids, defined by whether their parents enforce respect at the playground.

Yeah, two types of people, for sure.

My favorite house that I remember belonged to this vaguely hippie artist in Eastern WA. It didn't have any large rooms, just small ones, 10 ft ceilings, old wooden trim, and each room had its own design ethos (common trait: the walls were packed with art and mirrors and all the lighting was dim or pointed at something).

Just an incredible place for a soiree, it looked like hell to vacuum. You can't do that with a giant living room / kitchen / dining room.

more wood trim = better, absolutely.

10/10 agree. Every time we've had layoffs at my company, things have gotten slower - fewer people, morale in the tank, we end up cutting corners to get work done that we would have been able to do otherwise.

The AI layoff narrative drives me crazy - if it were going well, I'd think we'd want to go full steam ahead on it and not cut staff.

Everywhere is cheap if you're moving from a major metro in California.

If I sold my house in Seattle and moved to Nashville, I'd have a bigger / nicer house in a good neighborhood and a couple hundred thousand left over. If you're moving from the Bay area, you might have an extra million left over.

No income tax.

People over-index on that (take a 15% pay cut to save 10% on income taxes).

Oh I love a spritz. They're not bitters, but a St Germain Spritz or a Pernot Spritz is the superior way to get toasted on a summer day.

Yeah I'm down with Campari or any other bitter. Cynar is fantastic. Love me some Malört.

Hollow. It's not worth having sex with evil or crazy or needy - find someone with less filler and more heart.

Both Alex Jones and Tucker Carlson called for his removal - that's not a Consequence, but it's certainly a consequence.

Who decides if a bill goes to the floor for a vote, and, if that happens, what other steps are required for a bill to become law?

2. Bibi's got the Epstein rape videos
3. Trump thought this would rally support because he's a simpleton surrounded by groveling sycophants

It's knocking the ash off that gets ya. If it weren't for that, I could absolutely smoke a cigar w/o my hands.

"Immigrant child eaten by mountain lion in federal custody" -> "This headline is misleading - the mountain lion doesn't work for the government"

The headline doesn't mislead - whether it was an agent or someone else in 'the program' only matters from a 'we're pressing charges' perspective.

The kid was in federal custody, they were placed in an unsafe situation, they were left there Far longer than the statutory requirements allowed (and would have been left there longer if it weren't for a lawsuit), and then the agency wouldn't tell the kid's father that his toddler had been raped until the court forced them to.

The good news is knotweed is really distinctive, and really persistent. If there's knotweed and you clear it out, there's going to be knotweed in the same place Very soon.

One of the nastiest invasives in terms of taking over.

It's the saddest thing to me about visiting great cities like Paris or London - they're still dotted with observatories, but you can hardly see the stars due to the light pollution. I hope we can figure out how to address that in my lifetime.

I've had the luck to do a lot of hiking / backpacking in the Canadian wilderness, and being able to just lay back and look at the milky way is incredible. Life-changing, even.

They'll owe income tax on the value of the house to the govt with your plan. They could get a mortgage to cover that - shouldn't be too hard with the title in their name. Def get a lawyer for this whole process to help ya through it.

You might be able to forgive / write-off part of the debt according to the gift tax limits.
