I live in Australia, one of my colleagues travels back to India every December to spend time with family, I take of a week here or there to enjoy major game releases, another colleague takes off the first week of school holidays, if anything major comes up (one colleague got married overseas and took 2 months) as long as we give enough notice, our workplace lets us go into negative leave and still get paid.
