I'll agree that winging it is good for keeping the game moving and fun, but keep in mind that 1d4 is enough to potentially kill a commoner

yeah, thats good. Plus i like it when DMs know rules. Crossbow dick bolt is an improvised weapon at best which is only 1d4 damage. 1/2
