There are TONS of resources to learn the right way. Youtube is great for how-to's. Whatever u do, don't screw ur top together like this guy.
top is going to split pretty much everywhere there's a screw after it goes through a few seasons' changes. Poplar is too soft too 2/2
Pretty much everything from wood choice to joinery. You can't screw together a table top - wood moves due to changes in moisture. This 1/2

Desks have drawers, so currently it's a table. But OP said elsewhere that drawers are under construction, so it'll be a desk in the end.

My boy is only 23 mos. but he'll routinely sleep 11+ hrs a night. I'm sure that won't last by the time he's 5 yo though. A man can dream.
