The apps they want to use may have code which tries to detect whether it's running on a legitimate phone. It is probably easier just to have a bunch of actual phones than to play an endless cat-and-mouse game trying to create countermeasures for such code and making your fake environment look as legitimate as possible.

That will in fact give a person with normal vision a new color blindness.The most they can do is change which pairs of colors a colorblind person is unable to distinguish.

Sadly, the TV network was going to abruptly cancel the show at the end of the 4th season if I recall correctly, leading to the creator having to force an ending to it one season too early, and then changed their minds, leading to the creator having to deal with the changed end of season 4 when making season 5.Nevertheless, it's an excellent show. It's also fun to recognize all the foreshadowing when watching it again.
