If you read this I could really use about 6 more up arrows.
Hawai'i
What instrument took this?
What sucks is I love this paper and it is an important result, but the social media claims are over blown
This is a to scale representation of where PSP was during the event (18 solar radii)
I am pedantic because the press release and the results from the science paper are very different. The solar wind density just dropped
https://journals.aps.org/prl/pdf/10.1103/PhysRevLett.127.255101
Where does the corona end? Is it the K-Corona? The F-Corona? Is Mercury "touching" the sun? It is a cool result, but the claim is overblown
It didn't really "touch" the sun. It just went into a low density region of the solar wind where the plasma speed < Alfven Speed
This is not really true. 5 hours after this event PSP got closer to the sun but stopped "touching" the sun
The surface would be the photosphere or chromosphere. Even if the corona was surface,I don't think the Alfven surface would be it's edge
Here is a to-scale representation of where PSP was during this observation (~ 18 solar radii out):
the "touching" interval from the paper: 2021-04-28 09:33 to 2021-04-28 14:42 so this isn't even it
It didn't really "touch" the sun. It just got to a place where the solar wind speed was slower than local Aflven speed
PSP is in an elliptical orbit and has passed close to the sun 10 times. I am looking a a magnetic reconnection event from the first orbit
I have been working on data from PSP for the last few hours. I tried to come here for a break...
But Diamond head is no where near Waipio or H2...
I came here to write this comment
Why did they block street parking for Easter?
Oh my god, thank you for this
Go birds
Got nothing on Bargie
This gave me TA flashbacks
I like the little nerdy flex with the book choice
I am so mad about the units in #25
Big Gulp!
Is #1 Justin?
Leave Terry Gross alone, she is a national treasure!
Is that a Brussels griffon?
Chicago doesn't go green or white
