A long time ago when this was illegal I read a journalist's account of spending a day at a BC grow-op. It was underground, to prevent the RCMP from using airborne FLIR to find it. But, that meant a lot of power for lighting and HVAC, so they had generators. Which meant buying a lot of gasoline. (Or diesel, can't recall.) To cover for _that_... they had bought a gas station, so large deliveries of fuel weren't suspicious.

I went to the salon in the mall to get my long hair chopped off. I'd had enough of the maintenance after several years. My gf was with me and aware of the plan. She went shopping and came back near the end of the appointment. I could see her, in the mirror, scanning the salon _several times_ unable to recognise me. Eventually she left (I learned later she thought I finished early). I found her on a nearby bench. Even after saying Hi she didn't immediately recognize me.

Yeah that looks like a utility shaft. It's also not the first time someone's been down it, since the cables are nicely clipped to the wall the whole way down.
A friend of mine had his first parent death. I said, let me know when the funeral is. About a week later, no info, I phone and find out it had been yesterday. He'd posted the obit to social media and assumed I would see it. :-( I felt terrible.His other parent passed recently, and I hounded him for the info, and made sure I was there.
