I rented a room from a Pakistani guy long ago. Dude was in his 20's, going to college, and basically bought a house and rented out the rooms to pay for it. Super smart and super cool guy. He was dating a white chick during the week. Then on the weekends he'd be with some different non-white chick. I asked him about it. He said his parents were match-making him with other pakistani girls in the US, but he was secretly in love with his white gf. The struggle was real.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I want to know what happened! Do you know who he ended up with?

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I get it, but ultimately he’s an asshole whos two timing the weekend girls. He should be upfront and not play with people’s hearts

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure. I moved out after 3 months, b/c upstairs roomie of mine was creepy af. Dude kept making the upstairs thermostat set to 80F, and I was in sun-facing room. So, I was sweating my balls off. Landlord kept setting it back down to 72F, and told dude not to touch it, but dude kept messing w/ it. I'd come home, and the guy would just stare at me from upstairs w/o saying anything. I got tired of sweating my ass off, and feeling like a potential murder victim, so moved.

Good call. Yikes.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What kind of Asian are they alluding to?

5 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

Georgians?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The punchline is "if it were a white guy describing it you'd be disgusted, but it's okay because they're Asians".

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Think of every racist stereotype that exists for Asians in North America and that is the type of Asian they are alluding to not being.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

People from Istanbul, I suppose

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THAT kind of Asian.

5 months ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

Not Asian, but I think racist Asian stereotypes .. crap driving skills, eats dog, over-educated (as in, living only for grades, not life?) etc etc

5 months ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 4

And that stereo-type is based upon a social situation enforcing itself- at least in china. If you have one-child families, the new couple has to support 4 old timers financially when pension age hits - and china has a mostly private pension system. So they have to become high earners, to keep that going.. no pressure.

5 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

Shit. We trying to marry Asians to get out of this country right now, not into it. 😂

5 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

I didn't know, thanks for clarifying

Yeah, but the person whom they replied to specifically asked what the joke was. It’s a valid explanation. Context matters.

Go into it knowing it’s a little over the top and you’ll be fine. Good music.

5 months ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Honey, Freddy Mercury was a little over the top, THIS MOVIE...

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The f u on about

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Depending on what kinds of animated movies they watch, the character emotions can be a little over the top.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched it and was mostly bored. It's extremely pretty and overall great production. But the story is for kids and at least I found no depth to it. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise though.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

It's a very mixed bag imo. Fun and expressive animation and visuals, nice to see an asian-centric movie from a big American studio, decently catchy music. Underdeveloped characters, predictable plot, various moral implications regarding the joyful killing of demons who may or may not be sentient and involuntarily serving the big bad.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Soda Pop

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a very fun comedic movie about friendship and acceptance and a tiny bit of romance. It's an action musical, and I find musicals very boring and exhausting, but K-pop actually has some bangers. There's a reason it was top of Spotify streaming for months and they brought it to theaters once its Netflix popularity skyrocketed. The animation, voice acting, and music are all top-tier. Is it perfect? No, but if you enjoy animation, it's better than what Disney has produced in years.

5 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They put some sort of crack in it I swear. It was okay but not in the obsessive way I've seen people rave over it lol

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

34m I can see how it's so popular, great production, well written, fun creative ideas. Personally not my vibe, but still a great piece of media nonetheless. Song are freaking earworms too those melodies live rent free whether I want them too or not

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes yes you shoulld

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If you haven’t, yeah. It’s good. It’s still a kids movie - so don’t go in expecting “absolute cinema”. But it’s a well executed kids movie with good characters, solid animation, and an excellent soundtrack.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love watching all type of animations usually but i couldn't get into it personally. You should give it a fair chance if you're interested.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Yes. Its very good at what it sets out to be, and the music is catchy as hell.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Absolutely, unironically a good and fun movie

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My kid made me watch it. Ended up not being bad, really.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends, are you THAT kind of Asian?

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

NO! No, never. How dare you. Mostly because I'm not any type of Asian

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you like that kind of thing it's great. Basically Romeo and Juliet with songs and a sprinkling of whatever is popular fresh out of SCAD right now. You can always tell SCAD has a thing going because suddenly you'll see bean mouths everywere or stylized low-frame fight scenes or, like in K-Pop, hyperbolic reaction faces.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

SCAD?

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Savannah College of Art and Design. The grads are responsible for a *lot* of good animated stuff nowadays.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Title sounds lame but it is so very very good

5 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

What? The title is great! The surprising part is the movie doing justice to such a hype name.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I just wanna know what a K-Pop demon is, and why someone would hunt them.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watch the movie. Those questions are clearly answered.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think I disagree. The title was what made me say "yeah, I need to watch that at some point". I'm not (or at least didn't think I was) a fan of K-Pop, but the title was just cheesy enough to draw me in even without a trailer.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You literally just simultaneously admitted how cheesy the title is. 😂 It sounds cringe even if you want to watch it and see what it is.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never said it wasn't. Just said it drew me in.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agree completely: the title can be a turn off but the movie is excellent!

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I love the title. I don't need to explain the movie to anyone. Maybe let them know it's a musical.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I find to it feeling a bit rushed, as it it's 1h30m runtime is a bit short at many story beats could have been fleshed out more

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ok.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its fine, its not amazing, the animation is ok, the plot is mediocre, the songs are above average.

It ranks a solid B- its on par with a good Barbie Direct to DVD movie or a bad Disney movie. with three kids living half a mile away from a family video we watched... A LOT of bad disney movies and barbie movies.

Probably watch it just because its a cultural touchpoint right now but don't expect much, its less than 90 minutes.

5 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

If you watch it again you’ll see the foreshadowing, the subtle nods to other movies, and the shrewd fact that they left out ANY background on the parents so they can include it in the sequel. It’s genius.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats just standard scriptwriting.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m curious what your example of a good animated movie is, then, since you reject everything as pedestrian.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you that certain type of Asian?

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely. It's absolutely worth the watch.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Its ok

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, it's good

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's a pretty good movie. Not "watched it 30 times in the last 45 days" good like my youngest thinks it is, but pretty good.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Soundtrack is awesome! Story, cutesy but sweet and a touch sad. I don’t regret watching it.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's great. I'm not a big movie-watcher and I legit watched it multiple times. Played the music nonstop for a hot minute too.

Less so now, but the music still bops.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am a 53 year old man and I am definitely never going to watch this. I waited so long to break these walls down, to wake up and feel like me. I'm done hiding, now I'm shining, like I'm born to be.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a fun, catchy movie with some good messages behind it. Give it a whirl, especially if you have or know any kids.

5 months ago | Likes 200 Dislikes 4

Or if you want to know any kids….wait

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Second this. Old guy with kids who doesn't much like pop music. It's a solid movie and the songs are catchy with some poignancy.

5 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

The "good messages" being to lie until everything blows up, then when it all works out in the end, fundamentally change nothing about who you are as a person? I really dont get stans for that movie.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That's kinda the opposite of what the message is, my dude.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It isn't though. They literally could have had none of the adversity from the movie, and the end wouldn't change even a little. "Demons aren't all bad! But... we are still going to lock all of them with the big bad for all time." They completely ignore anything that would lead to personal growth.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Not my jam, but the kiddo loves it.

5 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

BLASPHEMY!!! /s (I liked the movie much more than I feel I should, lol. XD Especially the derpy tiger). The music is so fun, and I greatly enjoyed watching YouTube videos about it, such as “ScreenRant,” “How It Should Have Ended,” and even one explaining the Korean lines in the songs. It was educational and enjoyable! ^_^

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The bird and tiger are one of the best parts. Especially when the bird gets tired of the tigers shit.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

After that, watch Nimona. You'll probably cry your eyes out if you have any empathy at all, and will sit for days after wondering how our world could be as cruel as it is.

So good!

5 months ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Nimona was really good.

5 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Thanks but I've already been filled to the brim with tales of how incredibly cruel the world can be, no room for more

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But, in the end, Nimona is hopeful, about how our world can change. It'll likely make you cry, but you should still watch it.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My young ones are dying to watch, 3&5 too young right? They're doing a theater showing Halloween.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is a lot of combat, hitting the bad guys with swords and stuff, so that can influence kids behavior. My 4.5 year old has watched it a couple times and loves it, and is constantly requesting to listen to the soundtrack in the car

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean it's your call, I would recommend you watch it first and see what you think. My youngest is 7 so I'm in a different boat, but my only concern would be maybe a little scary in a couple spots if they're sensitive to that sort of thing.

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They are, ty. Avoiding signing up for Netflix lol, all of my 5yr old friends have seen it. But I do have hesitation, not religiously so, just worried too intense. We listen to the songs.

5 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was hesitant to let my 7yo see it. But her friends were all up in it and had showings at birthday parties. We watched it together. She liked it. I’m making my 5yo wait. The demons were potentially scary and there’s romantic relationships that I assume are uninteresting to kids. As a 41 year old cis white dude, I thought the movie was great.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was dreamworks quality. Not Disney quality. But catchy as hell and I’m a metal head post punk snob. 8 yr old nephew already has a costume for Halloween based on the characters. Just put it on while you do laundry for the bops.

5 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Dreamworks has been crushing Disney lately imo. Puss in boots 2??

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's Sony Animation, same guys behind Spiderverse

5 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So not trying to be a hater. Just trying to say be open to enjoying a kids movie. It’s not a movie that’s also geared towards adults.

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It didn’t get the AAA team writing. It could have been just a tiny bit more fleshed out imo. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t bad, but it it wasn’t like watching the golden age of Pixar where I went in ambivalent and came out thinking I’d seen something that changed me into a kid, just for a minute. WALL·E. Ratatouille. Toy Story. Those all changed who I was, if just for a minute. That’s great animation. But it was really good. Not hating. Also wasn’t on par with spider verse!

5 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think it was trying to be that and all I did was to say it was Sony, not DreamWorks

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. I’m just saying we’ve come to expect a lot from animation.

5 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
