So as these proceedings .... proceed... I'm going to take a swing here at keeping everyone I can up to date in as succinct a manner as I can muster.

The first question is pretty obvious.
What in the ever loving F*ck is actually happening? How did we get to this? Why are we at this stage NOW and not, say, 6 months ago or 2 years ago?

While many argue it's a long and windy road, it's one that can certainly be shortened.

The 3 major players here are (not in order of image but rather of importance)

-President Donald Trump
-Ukranian Comedian Turned President Volodymyr Zelensky
-Vice President Joe Biden

"Mr Trump's critics accuse him of using the powers of the presidency to bully Ukraine into digging up damaging information on a political rival, Democrat Joe Biden.

Mr Trump and his supporters allege the former vice-president abused his power to pressure Ukraine to back away from a criminal investigation that could implicate his son, Hunter.

Mr Biden is the front-runner for the Democratic nomination to take on Mr Trump next year.

In other words, it is nothing less than the White House at stake."

- Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49800181

Remember, in July and even earlier, Biden was always projected as a front-runner (despite lagging behind Elizabeth Warren and even Bernie Sanders in several major states currently).

So why this mess, now, of all times?

"Mr Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation on 25 July this year.

A rough transcript of the call* shows that the US president pressed his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate former Vice-President Biden and his son, who was a board member for a company owned by a Ukrainian oligarch.

The call came after the Trump administration had delayed releasing US military funds to Ukraine until mid-September.

Mr Trump also referenced the 2016 hacking of the Democratic email server in the call to Mr Zelensky, and seemed to imply that the server still exists somewhere in Ukraine.

The US president says he has done nothing wrong, calling the impeachment proceedings a "joke".

He has accused Democrats of themselves threatening Mr Zelensky by withholding their votes on US laws affecting Ukraine, and says the controversy was created in order to distract from Mr Trump's meetings at the United Nations."

-Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49800181

* the complaint is fully released at this time:
https://intelligence.house.gov/uploadedfiles/20190812_-_whistleblower_complaint_unclass.pdf

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and even V.P. Joe Biden himself, had publicly been staunchly critical of any mention of impeachment inquiries. They saw this as a distraction to the 2020 election and an impossible hurdle that made Dems look petty to viewers.

However... since this whistleblower incident the tables have vastly turned.

"A majority of the House now backs impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, a significant milestone as Democrats move rapidly on an impeachment inquiry.

As of Wednesday night, 218 lawmakers have indicated support for impeachment proceedings — 217 Democrats and independent Rep. Justin Amash.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi offered full-throated support for impeachment proceedings amid outrage over Trump pressuring Ukraine to investigate the Biden family, leading to a surge of support among Democrats this week.

Since the start of the year, a steady stream of Democrats has backed impeachment proceedings or even outright impeachment — either through public statements or votes. Until this week, the bulk of impeachment inquiry backers cited the results of former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump campaign links to Russia, and whether Trump attempted to obstruct the probe."

Wait, so who's this Whistleblower guy and what's going on with that? How come he blew the whistle?

Well, that answer is straightforward but what happened is rather complicated. He saw the phonecall with Zelenskyy as a threat to national security and an abuse of power.

"The whistleblower complaint that focused on President Donald Trump’s request to Ukraine’s government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden also alleges White House officials moved the records of some of Trump’s communications with foreign officials onto a separate computer network.

First reported by the Washington Post and now evident as the whistleblower complaint was publicly released, the complaint alleged the Trump transcript with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was placed on a computer system directly managed by the National Security Council Directorate for Intelligence Programs.

The whistleblower cited officials he or she spoke with that this not the first time a presidential transcript was placed into the system “solely for the purpose of protecting politically sensitive — rather than national security sensitive — information.”

The complaint more broadly alleges Trump is using the power of his office to solicit foreign interference in the U.S. election.

The White House has not responded to MarketWatch about this particular element of the whistleblower complaint.

Trump defended his July phone call with Ukraine’s president, saying there was “no pressure” on him as a summary showed Trump urging his counterpart to open a probe related to Biden.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday announced the opening of an impeachment inquiry."

So what's happening now?

There's intelligence hearings. Current breaking news is the exchange between *ACTING* Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and Rep. Adam Schiff (D).

"House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) described the whistleblower complaint against President Trump as the "most graphic evidence yet" that Trump has abused his oath of office.

Trump “sacrificed our national security and the Constitution for his personal political benefit” during a July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Schiff said in his opening statement at a hearing on the complaint, which was made public minutes before he spoke.

An edited transcript of the call released by the White House Wednesday confirmed that Trump pressed Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

Trump has said he did nothing improper, while excorciating Democrats for a "witch hunt.".

Schiff evoked the founder's vision of the Constitution, calling it the president’s obligation “to defend the institutions of our democracy, to defend our system of checks and balances that the Constitution enshrines, to defend the rule of law.”

The California lawmaker raised details about the whistleblower complaint released earlier Thursday, saying that Zelensky sought to "ingratiate himself" while making clear that he would like resources to help combat Russian aggression.

The chairman described Trump as acting like a mob boss who hears what someone wants and then makes clear their demands before bestowing such asks, an argument he'd also made Wednesday."

-source: https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/463165-schiff-describes-whistleblower-complaint-as-most-graphic-evidence

Particularly interesting is this statement by Rep. Devin Nunes (R)
"Rep. Devin Nunes, the Ranking Member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, left everyone confused and baffled when he claimed at a Thursday hearing that Democrats wanted "nude pictures" of President Donald Trump.

At the hearing, Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire appeared to discuss a whistleblower complaint from an intelligence community official.

The complaint, released to the public on Thursday morning, alleges that in a July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump undermined US national security by withholding $400 million in military aid to Ukraine to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate the son of former Vice President Joe Biden."

-source: https://www.businessinsider.com/devin-nunes-claims-democrats-want-nude-pictures-of-trump-2019-9

This was disturbing to many in the journalistic and political circle.

This is important because of Giuliani's, vocal, and public role in this whole mess.
Rudy Giuliani is a personal attorney for Mr. Trump. In no way should he have the sort of clearance to speak about national security issues, let alone be involved in them. Yet, repeatedly in the call, according to the released White House transcript, "Trump repeatedly pressured Zelensky to work with Giuliani and Attorney General William Barr to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter."

"President Donald Trump's personal attorney Rudy Guiliani told Fox & Friends Wednesday morning that he had access to the transcript of the controversial phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before the White House released it, and some experts argue there could be legal ramifications.

....
Giuliani, a private citizen, told Fox & Friends that he was previously aware of the transcript's classified contents.

"When you read the transcript, there is no mention of $250 million," Giuliani pointed out, referencing military aid for Ukraine that Trump decided to withhold days before the call.

The comment prompted Fox host Brian Kilmeade to ask whether Giuliani had read the transcript. He interjected multiple times without acknowledgment from Giuliani, who continued his defense of the president.

"Mr. Mayor, can I ask, did you read the transcript?" Kilmeade finally asked. Giuliani responded, "Let's say it was read to me."

"The whole thing?" Kilmeade asked. "I hope," Giuliani responded.

Yet Giuliani was evasive when Kilmeade asked if Trump brought up Biden during the call. "Maybe he didn't bring it up. Could be possible that the president of Ukraine brought it up," Giuliani said.

According to the transcript, there was no explicit mention of the foreign aid that Trump had withheld. However, Trump did speak openly of the Bidens."

Needless to say, this is far from over.

We're going to get more updates, even by the end of the day, so stick around.

Plus, the Ukrainian prosecutor that Giuliani's been dogging came out today and said that Biden's son didn't break any laws in Ukraine.

Also in the whistleblower complaint: Giuliani has been in contact with Ukrainian offiicals for months, pushing the Biden conspiracy. It

Biden is on tape bragging about holding back funds from Ukraine until the prosecutor investigating Hunter is fired. He’s admitted it.

An entire coalition of countries was calling for the firing of that prosecutor, because Shokin was corrupt, blocking any investigations into

If by admit, you mean "I pressured Ukraine to fire their prosecutor to protect Hunter Biden," you are incorrect. If by admit, you mean "I,

Isn't the problem with the whistleblower that the information isn't even first party, but something they heard while off-duty?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Technically, but inspector general knows of many witnesses. Most damningly, the whisteblower's account of the call turned out to be spot on.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The call was right, though there seems to be very little in that transcript to huff over.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1. It's a memo, not a transcript, 2. Trump withheld military aid, Ukraine asked him for help with defense, Trump replied first and foremost

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You need to get rid of the two-party system

6 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 7

There are other parties. If any of them were an actual threat, one of the major parties would adopt the popular stances.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It wouldn't change anything. The line will find a way to draw itself in the sand.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Parties aren't, strictly speaking, part of the system.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. But with what is currently going on, I can see some non-Tea Party/Trumpians coalesce as a true Conservative Party after Trump

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

has completely destroyed the GOP. At the time, the readical left and the moderates in the Democratic Party could also break from each other.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The easiest way for this to happen would be to institute a tiered choice system on ballots.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We have other parties sadly they don't have enough people that are under them to make any real difference / get elected.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Somewhat. Federal election system requires higher polling %'s than most states to debate. This is how 3rd parties win state elections

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... which is because of the two-party system.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There is a whole slew of things to get into. It isn't a two party system in reality. The problem is more to do with how people tend to vote

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

and which party people opt to run in. The problem tends to be who gets to be president is two party generally and even independents need to

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It very much is a two-party system. It's the mathematical truth of first-past-the-post voting, and in particular its spoiler effect.

Possible, but I don't think so. He needs his inner circle to be his cheerleaders for his ego. Giuliani is already tweeting shit.

6 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 6

Trump has been known to tear up documentation of his conversations (which is illegal) and aids have been putting them back together

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 12

Its not technically a transcript... it's a memo/summary of the phone call.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

it's a bit confusing because there's two different versions of the call in question: the public thing we got yesterday, which is being //

6 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

CALLED a transcript in places, but is NOT an exact, word for word record. Then there might be an actual 100% copy that's still secret

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

1) I never understand this one. Electoral college is about small state vs big state, not rural vs. urban. Big blue states like NY and CA

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2) have massive agriculture industries, so all the dairy farmers in upstate NY get fucked compared to urban residents of Balitmore.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They would also have one in a popular vote system, ya dangus.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also Arnold Schwarzenegger

And Sonny Bono

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And Clint Eastwood, I think.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Key point also: Ukrainian president has claimed he felt no pressure and thought the conversation had a natural flow.

6 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 31

Of course, he also says that Trump offered to help Ukraine reclaim Crimea.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Well, I mean, technically President Obama did nothing when Russian took it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

lol the man is being threatened with lack of aid/missiles of course he's gonna say that.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dems/Congress gives it too...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would say the same thing about the guy who is holding my money.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

That doesn't say much, given that Trump is known to be vindictive and Zelensky doesn't want to jeopardize future US help.

6 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 12

good point. he was comically effusive in his comments when sitting with trump.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

He is a literal comedian...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Doesn't mean he's lying though. We just don't know, and that's my point. You can't let what you feel about him blind you.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

"Man who needs aid for his country says he didn't feel pressured by the demands of man who has control over said aid." Totes reliable.

6 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 11

Well there's nothing saying he feels that way.. so...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

He stopped aid two days before......

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not saying it's not suspicious. That's LIKELY the case. But no one is confirming that it's direct correlation, unfortunately.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

A muthfucking poet ^ right there. in a 140 characters I couldn't say it any better.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

@OP

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

I mean, I would say that if the other guy in that conversation was investigated for election tampering & collusion with my biggest enemy.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 10

Ukraine has a LOT to lose here, not just a president.

6 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 8

For sure. But due process is due process. If he's proven guilty, I'll say he's out. I don't know if that's going to happen though

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 6

So far we have "misuse of national security apparatus to cover up what looks like solicited election interference" and it's day 1.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

What do you mean IF? It's all there in black and white!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

You really think he will be impeached? Like REALLY think that? C'mon, the Senate will let him fly

Washington Post also has a nice write up that debunks the right wing talking points about Biden. https://wapo.st/2mGvTTt?tid=ss_tw

6 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 47

Hunters hiring was not to curry favor? Biden didn’t brag about getting the prosecutor fired?

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 16

Probably was. Kid's a coke-head.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The prosecutor that Biden “bragged about” firing was not investigating Burisma. (If you don’t know what that is, you need to read up more.)

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Story, it makes clear the the investigation into company was over before the prosecutor was fired. Please read before replying in future.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 12

You don't see a problem of a foreign politician pressuring you to fire one of your guys? Lol... You guys...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Keep believing your WP, NYT, CNN, MSNBC, BBC, and at the same time claim infowars are liars... ROFLMAO

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So he wasn’t hired to curry favor at all?

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 13

They may have thought they would get favor by hiring him. But if they did the fruits of their labor didn’t materialize.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Nope - hired for expertise in dealing with specific types of regulations that the company knew they were going to face.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Hahahahahaha hahahahahaha!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

I need to ask you this. How would Warren be better for the economy than Trump?

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

The economy is fine, the economy isn't the only issue, and the economy doesn't mean Trump is above the law.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

The economy is always the issue

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Trump sends the market into upheaval with angry tweets. Anyone would be better.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

So, stopping fracking. Breaking up any company over 1 billon, 60% middle class tax for healthcare. All would be better than now?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Washington Post is owned by Jeff Bezos. FYI

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 28

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

They are still one of the most reliable sources of information available

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

Correct.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK. That has nothing to do with the accuracy of the story, but thanks for the unrelated fact.

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

It most certainly does. It’s an extremely biased news outlet.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 13

Being as Bezos is a billionaire, shouldn't he be a Trump guy?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OK. The Bloomberg story YOU LINKED TO, also has the investigation ending before the prosecutor was fired.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

I love this. Most of the noise against Biden is just that, noise. It's not just WaPo. NPR, BBC, even Al-Jazzera have all debunked this.

6 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 29

Mind you, he's a shit candidate this time around, but the Hunter Biden story is one of many pieces of spaghetti thrown, hoping for stick.

6 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 21

1/2I believe the right wing loonies (not the reasonable adults) call that a "nothing burger" no? I love when fringe vocab comes back to bite

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

2/2 The people who coined the term in their ass. It's the best. Don't care if it's a dem or rep, it's the best when it happens.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

The leaning political views of all of the mentioned debunkers are the bothersome part. This whole thing will kill Biden's bid.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

He's already polling behind Warren. I'm not too upset.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

.... good >_>

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

With at least 22 downvotes every time. Usually in less than 5 minutes.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

To be fair, I'm not a fan to begin with but political posts drain my soul. I can understand down voting negative Trump posts to an extent.

this isn't true and this doesn't happen. Anything pro or even neutral about trump is downvote bombed, not the opposite.

Not the collusion with Russia. Not the dozen attempts to obstruct the investigation into collusion.

When the Nixon impeachment started, there were about 19% of people in favor of it. There are already over 35% in favor of impeaching Trump.

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 4

But was there as much vitriol then as there is now? I'm not against it per se, but the media having pushed this since he was elected seems>>

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

like it would have something to do with the massive support behind it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But Nixon wasnt actually impeached, was he? I cannot quite remember. Would he have been?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He was in the process of being impeached, but then he resigned before the charges completely went through.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, he stepped down before the impeachment procedures could be finished. Don't think Trump would do the same. Wouldn't be surprised if (1)

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

he told his supporters to start Civil War 2.0 or something before he'd let that happen. (2)

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Nixon resigned so that he wouldn’t face the humiliation. Trump is so narcissistic, he can’t be embarrassed. He can’t even admit a mistake.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good read.but why was Biden's son getting 50k a month on a no show job while his dad was VP and we were propping up Ukraine against Putin?

6 years ago | Likes 161 Dislikes 41

Trump gets money for a no show job. He golfs most of the time.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Simply put, because rich people in power do what they want. Bribe their way into schools or jobs. The normal corruption stuff. Doesn't/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Change what was said and asked for. Both parties need to be held responsible. Trump has been abusing his office power since he/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Took office. He shouldn't be in at all. I am also slightly concerned about the server he mentioned. What's on it? Damning evidence that he/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wants destroyed, or just more dirt on others. Why even mention it when he did?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, the entirety of American foreign policy has been stuff like this. But it's different from actually siding with other countries

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean 4 of trump’s kids or in-laws work in the executive branch, also US aid is not charity it is intended to benefit the US. For example

Every 1,000 the US spends in Central America produces 50,000 worth of savings on border control spending.

Because he was giving them advice on multinational regulations? Because he was employed at a law firm retained by the company and had

already worked for them once as a consultant doing just that? He was on the board, how is that a no-show job? Because his business partner

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in a consulting firm had come on the board also? It's not a beautiful thing, but family members of high-ranking government officials get

We were propping up Ukraine cause they're a sovereign country and Putin wants to get the USSR band back together.

Biden's son getting pizzaid reeks of nepotism, but that's still different from leveraging your aid $ for re-election help.

That's what board of directors do. They get paid to attend meetings once a quarter. Pretty common, really

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

A good question. And why GOP wasn’t all over this. They did 6 investigations into Benghazi and none into this?

6 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 14

Because the Republicans, of all people, don't want to set a precedent of taking down failsons.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

The Obama administration hid the records of this for years. It only came out cause Biden admitted to blackmailing Ukraine.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 28

How do you think Biden blackmailed Ukraine? Because he didn't.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Same investigator was looking into an energy company that Biden's son was on the board of directors for.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Biden was “ordered” to withhold a loan if Ukraine did not fire the prosecutor investigating his son. Technically he had “permission.”

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 15

So disturbed how you missed that prosecutor was fired for not prosecuting and came out with the complete opposite information.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The prosecutor wasn't investigating his son. He was actually fired for being *too lax* in corruption investigations. And that's coming from

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

several countries, the UN and so on, not just from the US/Biden.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The prosecutor that Biden got fired already suspended investigation into JRs company, and was supposedly replaced with a less corrupt one.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Replacing that prosecutor increased the chance of his son being under fire in corruption investigations. Theoretically.
