This is the Kmart I am used to seeing.

A clean, well stocked department store that sells quality goods.

They are a great place to get reasonably priced items that are good quality. It's more upmarket than the warehouse, but you are not spending a small fortune like at farmers. It's our favorite store for my friends, family, and I. So you can imagine my excitement at being able to visit Kmart in the US, the birthplace of department stores.

And then I saw Kmart in the US

Messy or empty shelves, unhelpful staff, shitty stuff.

I was so dissapointed.
I ended up going to target instead, and then I just became confused. Because it wasn't target like in australia or NZ. Target in the US was like Kmart in NZ, only everything was so much more expensive.

And now I end my rant.

A K-Mart near me only just got destroyed in the last year or two. It's ridiculous, they need to die.

That looks like the nasty K Mart in Uptown Minneapolis :(

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the is why Wal-Mart has won the retail wars.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay for NZ +1, I love our kmarts. where I live we love kmart so much we now have 2!

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Also, a shiat-ton of stores have closed in the last 20 years. WalMart pretty much destroyed the K.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

When Oahu got it's first Kmart everyone lost their shit, there were traffic jams, FOR KMART. Now it looks just like the bottom pics. :(

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry to break the news to ya dude but Kmart is going down. They're closing another 200+ stores this year. So long blue light special.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not the same company, crazy upside-down-person.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes split from American Kmart in the late 70s I believe.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That logo tho

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That K-Mart is nearly identical to the one in Hialeah, Florida. Can you confirm?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No it's in fort pierce FL trust me I recognize it big time even google Kmart in fort pierce

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea kmarts are like the junk store now

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I worked at a kmart. We were treated like crap, so we didn't give a crap, and the store suffered for it.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

K mart is crap so your statement seems to be accurate

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

K-mart in the US was a good thing. Now, they are the same company as Sears.... who also used to be a good thing.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Somehow we have 4 near Buffalo, and like 7 Targets. In the 80's Kmart and Hills were kings of dept. stores, Hills closed in the 90's.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hills was great in the 80's, but by the early 90's their stores looked pretty much like the American K-Mart pictured above. Sad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Terget's where you go to pay a little more just so you don't have to go to Walmart.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I will drive 20 miles extra to go to Walmart instead of target. Such an overrated store

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

KMart in the US is on its deathbed.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Again. They almost went under in 2002 and got bailed out by Chase and some other banks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

K-mart in Guam confused the fuck out of me because it was the main big supercenter on the island and it was actually nice inside.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm a navy brat and my parents would talk about that! (too young to remember, myself) Also that Wendy's sells rice as a side. (mom's fav)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"So you can imagine my excitement at being able to visit Kmart in the US".

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@op fellow Aussie Kmart worker here, they are owned by two different companies, the more you know

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

K-Mart near my old apartment looked the same but with garbage cans in the aisles that were catching leaks from the ceiling

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

That is just the average American Corporate attitude on repairs.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So it wasn't just mine that had this? I always got a chuckle from the trash-bags and garbage cans full of dirty water.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They all do. It's part of their branding.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This makes me laugh because the roof of the Kmart in my city collapsed

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

THIS is the K-Mart I know

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THIS is the K-Mart I know

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what my campus looks like any time there's inclement weather. Shitty concrete garbage...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

either you live near the one i worked at, or a lot of kmarts do this

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's how our Kmart is :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But you didn't get too see all the wildebeests and goblins at Walmart.

10 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 2

at my walmart you do. I live near hillbilly country. its sometimes a little horrifying to go into the walmart.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In college we used to get stoned and go people watch in the South Philadelphia Walmart. I've never felt more like Jane Goodall in my life

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

All I can say is: Praise Jesus for creating Amazon Prime.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, I'm in California (Silicon Valley), and the walmarts here are slowly getting classier. They're getting nicer than target. It's weird.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You should find a Roses if you think KMart is bad.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Or MagicMart

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or Fred's

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Omg I once walked into a Ross just to see what was up, and i turned around and walked back out. It was actually very distressing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Roses is the trap house of department stores.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, Target's expensive?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Not really, no.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It was in Canada. So weird. Half the selection of US target and more expensive than alternative stores. No wonder they failed.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Everything in US is expensive compared to their foreign counterparts. You just didn't notice because they drain too much cash to travel

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Uh, no. Also? No.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

really? because I've been to Europe and everything there was more expensive than in the US

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's more overpriced to you as an American than it is to a European, because the Euro is overvalued in many EU states.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ie: you an a European may have to do similar hours of similar work to buy the same goods, but you lose on the exchange rate.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

agreed... Ive been to several other places where things seemed to be about 15-25% more expensive for similar quality.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's because the exchange rate doesn't play out in your favor, because of our terrible currency.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keep in mind, the New Zealand dollar is only worth about 2/3 of a US dollar.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is probably a lot of it, yes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But if their PPP rate was 1, the currency exchange shouldn't change the amount of money they have in terms of what it can buy.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Using the Big Mac index, looks like it takes about 20% more NZD to buy the same amount of Big Macs in the US as it does in NZ.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(New Zealand's PPP rate is less than one, so your conclusion is correct anyway)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone from virginia- I haven't seen a Kmart in a long time... Where they all at??

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There's still one in Chester, about 15 miles south of Richmond. Source: I live near there.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 hour drive away! but hey i will be near Richmond this weekend at frost fest so maybe i'll check out one of these so called k-marts

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mid-Michigan has them. The one in Alma is a place of despair.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tn

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one looks identical to the one in Harrisonburg that just turned into a Gabes and Hobby Lobby

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Australia has the best Kmarts and Targets in the whole world! I love them :D

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still got one in Abingdon, SWVA

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

W have one in Pasadena, Maryland

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one in Fairfax off Jermantown Road got leveled and they built a Lowes in it's place.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jerman with a j

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's still a handful of them speckled around Florida. There's one less than a mile from me

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It looks like the one in Warren MI.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What part of Virginia? I can tell you where to find one in both Virginia Beach and Lynchburg, but VA is a pretty big state.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eastern shore (accomack) lol there isn't anything over here.... well we finally got a walmart, i miss living in fredricksburg tbh

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit, yeah. And you're perfectly located to be hours from any real city. Sorry bud.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1 hour to Salisbury, MD, 1h30ish to ocean city md. 2 hours to VA beach. but hey i live in the happiest seaside town in america (2014) hahaha

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

US Target is pretty inexpensive...but if you want cheaper (Prices and quality), try a super Walmart. Or better yet, Amazon.com

10 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 10

So many perfectly good Zellers locations were closed to start up Target in Canada.. And then were all later shut down b/c it was so

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

horribly executed. Didn't have any kind of grand opening, shelves were pretty much empty most of the time =/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck Walmart!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 4

Yay Amazon!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oddly enough being in the Target HQ area, Target is more often to be less expensive for most things I buy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm either reading this wrong or it implies that target sells better quality products than amazon. I must not be thinking of the same target

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Target price matches Amazon, I've done it many times when I don't want to wait for shipping

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Good point...Best Buy too. But Amazon lets you shop in your underwear. (I think Walmart does too)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've used price matching at BB before too, yeah. And now that Amazon charges tax in my state, no real reason not to.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wal-Mart is more of a "can't stop everyone who tries" than allows case.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Target is where you pay a little bit more to not be seen at Walmart.

10 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 2

Or because saving $4.02 is worth it to get out of there thirty minutes faster. Target actually has more than four cashiers.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That needs to be target's slogan. "Pay a little more so you don't have to shop at walmart"

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I find a lot of stuff similar in price to Walmart. Even if I noticed a bit of a higher price at Target, I'm never going to shop at Walmart

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Why? You have to be a complete moron to pay more for something.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If it is more, it's barely more. They are seriously similar in price from what I've found.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Price isn't the only factor. I may have saved $.30 on an item, but cost me more in gas, aggravation and time to go to Wal-Mart.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Target is usually a pleasant shopping experience. Just being in Wal-mart makes me angry, i think its the lighting. K-mart makes me sad.

10 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

Fuck target.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

truth

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've actually noticed a huge lighting difference at Wal-Mart in Canada v. the US. Much higher level of illumination and flicker in the US.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You are soooo accurate!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Target's lighting is even worse. I don't know how people shop at either. There's a Walmarket (neighborhood market) I stop at sometimes but

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the lighting in there is much more subdued.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I refuse to ever shop at neighborhood markets. Walmart already has enough market share on retail.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As an Irishman i don't know what a K-mart or Target is.

10 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 1

In Aus, mid-range department stores. Along with Bigi W, staple source of clothes and housegoods for ~70% of the population.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yall have Irishmart

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you try looking at the photos of the big shops just above where you wrote this comment? I'm guessing it's a big shop.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Like Lidl but more shit

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like a Tesco/Asda. But think American sizes.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

More like Penneys!!!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can confirm even in Australia

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Ameeeeericuh... Fuck yeaaah...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"American sizes" lol

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I thought Tesco was a grocery store. Now I'm confused.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can buy groceries at both K-Mart and Target. It's less confusing than doing so at Menards, even.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They also sell clothes, home goods, etc. they have mini Tescos, just sells food, in some places in the UK (at least when I was in London).

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

KMart had a rough Decade, and was bought by Sears, who is also having it rough. Its dying a slow, messy death.

10 years ago | Likes 715 Dislikes 4

Just imagine. People used to buy houses from the Sears catalogue

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only things you can find in a surviving Kmart to let you know it isn't still 1994 are the televisions.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hooo that's sad :(

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The US Virgin Islands currently has one of the best K-Marts in the US.....because there is no other competition

10 years ago | Likes 108 Dislikes 1

i've been they. The in-store music was a rick roll at the time, but them's the breaks.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

KMart's troubles started when one of their major partners went to prison for insider trading.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We get so few department stores in Canada these days. Kmart is gone, target is gone, Sears is almost gone, zellars is gone...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because their stores are messy and poorly run

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The empty shelves are intentional. Meant to make you buy thinking they are desperate. I work for another and hope we never get this low.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kmart was garbage even 10 years ago. Idiotic staff, gross cleanup jobs. It's basically Walmart's redneck cousin.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you cant out walmart walmart

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, KMart bought Sears.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Walmart hungers, walmart feeds

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I dont get it, why sears in mexico is so nice, but in the USA it is crap?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It turns out that both KMart and Sears are worth more to hedge funds by selling off the real estate and leasing it back to the company.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It was actually K-Mart holdings who bought Sears and it became Sears Holdings after the purchase. Both are failing miserably.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I work at sears and they are starting to cut hours.....for the whole store because of sales... i'm quite worried.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The blind leading the dead

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Actually it was Kmart that bought Sears. Crazy right?

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

They also bought Boarders Bookstores.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait we still have K-Marts in the US?

10 years ago | Likes 2446 Dislikes 6

Believe it or not I have found 2-3 k-marts that were better than a target store. They are kept alive because of the rich ppl in the area

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but not for long. The one in my town is closing, the other remaining ones will probably follow soon.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, got one right down the road from me. It's ghetto as crap.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

"as shit", my boy. Proper manners.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I worked at one fresh out of HS years ago. Worked for a few months then left, a few months later the entire co.pany went under

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And they still have Little Caesars inside

Kmart bought sears. Sears was about to declare bankruptcy.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The one by me is bigK

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know right

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. There is one pretty close to me but I have never seen anyone go in or out. Just use the parking lot when Potbelly's is full.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got $7 iron man Legos marked down from $40. Fuck yea Kmart!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Not for much longer by the look of things

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I buy my work clothes from Kmart, the store is right across the street from where I work.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes and like all stores the quality ranges from location to location. The kmart near me isnt anything like this one

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I work at one of the slightly less shitty ones. We are definitely going under eventually though

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work at one. The manager is a douche and apparently him threatening my job multiple timed is not enough for higher management to care.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

K-Mart is the only "superstore" that's permitted around the Santa Barbara area. And only because it's been in Goleta for decades.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I found one in the ghetto of Las Vegas. In the toy isle there was a power wheels on blocks and on fire.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The one in Minneapolis is as decrepit as they come. The company claims it's one of their best stores.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing only out in the rural areas. Down in State College PA, we NEVER had any. There's still one 20 minutes from where I live now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, and it still looks like the remnants of a post apocalyptic world 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

2/2 flickering lights, the disjointed, shuffling staff zombies, no other people. Crumbling structure.... fun stuff

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

That's near exactly like the Kmart in my town. Floors are stained and dilapidated, missing shelving, ancient check out computers

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

there is one off the highway about 30 min from my house. I drive by it sometimes, and I drove though the lot once because of a road block.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You must also be in Texas

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are two within a 15mi radius of me.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have 2 in wichita ks

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Got some around the Milwaukee (wi) area too. Only one or two, but yeah. And I know around Manistee (Mi) There's still one hangin on.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one. They have a hunt bros pizza place inside and frozen Pepsi

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have 1 on my town. I'm the "ghetto plaza."

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In. Thanks autocorrect

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kent, WA. I feel they're just trying to get rid of whatever old kmart inventory they have left at this store

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who worked for Sears holdings that's what I said when they hired me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to work at the smallest one in the nation. Useless shitty store

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked at one for a bit. Made a lot of friends, but not much else

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's one by my house. We don't shop there

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They all smell the same

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. Its actually my favorite place to shop, sadly it is closing i believe. Its all about your kmart card reward points

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just don't understand how the one in my town is still in business after you just see gnars swarming down candy isles.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw one surrounded with asian restaurants and a gas station a while ago.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in a nice town...our Kmart is trash

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have one In Hawaii I thought we had the last one or something, It's not empty, It's over stocked and overpriced...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The flowers are always dead as shit, and nothing's been moved in 5 years. The cashiers will bargain with you just so you'll buy something

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they own Sears now.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Other way around

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one I worked at a few years ago closed because a Walmart opened across the street lmao

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they still haven't killed them ALL off. I can't imagine being hired to a store like that, knowing it will probably be dead within the year.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer to call them Super Duper Marts.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tulsa, OK has one remaining. There was one near my house that went down a grizzly road of death before that. Just got demolished recently.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A road filled with grizzlys? Terrifying!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw a commercial for it yesterday. I thought i had been sent back in time

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have no other big retailer (Target, Walmart) in Santa Barbara, so Kmart is it and they are terrible. I drive 30 min south to go to target

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The ones that are left look like this

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an 80's kid, shopping at Kmart in the 80's and 90's is a huge part of my memories. Sad that they're almost all gone.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know right? The only one i ever knew of got turned into a school

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost all K-marts left are drug fronts.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

my local kmart has a built-in nathan's hot dogs restaurant and aprox. 3 employees in the entire building.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one in my hometown shutdown last year. Stuff had been on the shelf's so long it faded and turned brown from the light exposure and dust

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. My local K-Mart is a complete shithole.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. I take my grandmother to the local one and feel like I have to shower after I leave.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right next to Caldor

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure the company shut down.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know right? The only one i ever knew of got turned into a school

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one in my town went out of business a few years ago. We have a Walmart a Target and about 5 Dollar Generals.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have a Super K mart where I live.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's one in the decrepit old mall that I used to work at. It's only slightly more up to date than the rest.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea there are still some around, not a lot anymore though

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I believe they filed, but have to keep locations open due to existing contracts on products... at least until those expire

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have one near me. People go there. I don't.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The management is a complete failure. My husband was in management training for 6 months because the person who assigns stores 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Left the company & no one else would step up to do it. Left him hanging in limbo until he left. 2/2

Even after one of their major partners went to prison for insider trading some of the stores refuse to go out of business. We have one here.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's one in my town too! Nobody knows how it stays open there is only ever like 5 cars in the parking lot.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no k-marts here. just wal-marts

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like Zellers in Quebec from the Hudson Bay. They closed them down so should be soon there too

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not for long they are all closing

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have one, but they're unloading their inventory and closing next month. Good riddance

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There are 2 that I see all the time

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I worked at one for first job, yelled at my boss for his incompetence and talking down to me. Good times.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Last one just closed a while ago in my city.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Montgomery wards and venture stores as well.

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

damn! do you still have Woolworth's too?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Montgomery Wards is only online now, no retail stores

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Monkey Wards! Holy Shit! I got my first BB Gun there, what a crappy place in comparison to stores today...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

+1 for Monkey Wards. That is the first thing I thought of when I read the name of the store. I grew up knowing that as its name

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ha ha, I'm from New Hampshire, that's what mum called it growing up, the middle aged salesmen, comb overs and big ties, ha ha, and mustaches

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Montgomery Wards is still in business? TIL.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

VENTURE??? I haven't seen one of those since I was 8 or so... and I'm in my 30s.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yea, about. They tanked when I was about 6ish, I'm 31 now. Mom worked for them.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where is there a Venture? 20+ years and trips all over the US, haven't seen one.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They closed up shop in the 90's. I am old enough to remember TG&Y and OTASCO stores in Oklahoma.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what I thought. I'm old enough to remember when Ponderosa was popular.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where the fuck are those? I haven't seen Venture in probably 20 years, and 15 for Wards!

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Venture has been gone for about 25 years. My mom worked for them when they tanked.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I worked at a Venture about 30 years ago. I haven't seen one in a very long time.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I think they left a few in all the major cities. I know in Kansas City MO and KS there are a few still around.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My K-Mart isn't great but it isn't horrible either. Better than the Big Lots across the street from it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My town's Big Lots was actually really well stocked, clean, and organized. They also have Gorilla Munch. Fuck yes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Big lots is the worst uncrowded store ever. Walmart is the worst crowded store ever. I try to avoid both

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I venture into Big Lots for the random stuff I can't find anywhere else. Have you ever been in an Ollie's? That is an adventure.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ollie's is like a garage sale but in a department store chain form

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're huge in NYC. Don't know why. I have one a block away, and I see them all over Manhattan.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Two Kmarts in Manhattan. Two.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because Walmart isn't allowed to enter the city.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Two Kmarts in Manhattan. Two.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You might be thinking of Circle K.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one in my town still. It's like walking into a time warp. I think they still have the same inventory they did when I was 5.

10 years ago | Likes 472 Dislikes 0

Mine literally still sells giftcards branded with "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

There's one in Concord, California. We waited in like for 30 minutes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do they still have the Blue lights from when I was 5?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

just brought em back

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Until very recently we still had a Target with neon signage from the 90s. It was glorious.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

we have a taco bell like that near us. its 90's-tastic inside and out.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's the best place for the newest music cassettes!

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

VHS and batteries outrageously priced....old DVDs and CDs. It is sad :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see stories periodically of someone finding some awesome item that's been in stock for years.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mine feels like the 90s

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I went to one last month to buy an exercise bike and I hear a familiar tune start on their radio...wait is this?... "EYYY Macarena!! AYE!"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

K mart is the radioshack of department stores.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

One by my house has ps2 games. And VHS tapes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

...maybe I should go there for games. who knows what i could find

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have two, maybe 3. You're right about the inventory, except for the superman ice cream...

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

You have k-marts with food?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awe, man I miss that Superman ice cream so hard!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Mine removed the superman ice cream and replaced it with baby clothes... I don't have any reason to go there anymore.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There's one in manhattan. We don't have walmart though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, the one on 34th Street.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't there another at Astor?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Check the one out in Glendive if you want a chuckle

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's a dive.......all puns intended

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No blockbuster is gone

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah blockbuster is still here. I've got one pretty close to me.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll let you head on over to Google to do some fact checking.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Really thats awesome. I would love to have a blockbuster back. I absolutely loved my job at blockbuster

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
