For this scenario, we're supposed to overlook fact the ICE agent had no legal jurisdiction to put themself into this situation in the first place. After all, if they did, they'd have a legal warrant to arrest someone on that trolley. But, they don't. So, they're not operating as a legal authority, just an armed thug going rogue.

As a military police Veteran: things have gone VERY wrong when use of deadly force standard is higher for the military than it is for civilian law enforcement.

The problem is any reaction will play right into the plan.

i SWEAR i saw a clip where noem says they train their officers to stand in front of vehicles to prevent them from fleeing. i SWEAR i commented. idk if it was a post, or in a comment on a post, but no comment to the effect of acknowledging the hypocrisy exists in my history.

Do they really? It's not like someone running around shooting people don't realize it's THEIR action that harm others. If you compare it to someone running around with a knife, then i can see the difference but you don't really have a knife problem, do you? But all in all it's a completely fucked up situation and to see your government officials lie outright when there is video is...interesting. If this don't change things, nothing will.

Except this isn't at all true.
SUVs are NOT trolley cars. Trolley cars are on TRACKS that prevent it from doing anything but going backwards and forwards on a fixed route.
SUVs and other vehicles can go in any direction. In this case, the SUVs driver CHOSE to plow through a checkpoint and attempt to strike that ICE agent.

BREAKING: Top ICE officials are reportedly worried that regular citizens will start using the Minneapolis rationale for self-defense and shoot at every ICE vehicle that drives toward them while claiming they "feared for their lives," and angry juries will let them off.

Let's not dampen his sociopathy by saying he benefitted from the "emotional distance" of a gun. He committed a horrific act. Everyone with a gun knows the violence it's capable of.
Imjurbro
I don’t think you read the OP very well, it’s telling this shooting was not distanced.

He looked so fucking smug and pleased with himself as he strode away from the murdered woman. I bet he was tumescent under the body armor.

I have to say, with the different narratives coming up immediately after the incident, the first thing I did was look for and find the three most common clips in minutes. What stood out to me was glaring, and I can't believe that no one else is commenting on it - the ICE agent immediately takes an Isosceles (versus Weaver or Chapman) stance and leans in towards the driver at near point-blank range. He's very clearly put himself in a dicey situation, yet is 1/
circlebreaker
still far enough away so as to extend his trunk/arms forward to get a better shot at close range after taking a reflexively hop backwards - the man fired from a nearly 90° angle as the driver was passing him. Others have since commented on protocols/training which contraindicate moving in front of a running vehicle because of the potential danger, and he clearly didn't follow that rule of thumb despite it being a regular part of training. He was also very /2
circlebreaker
clearly not struck by the vehicle, although that kind of gaslighting is now commonly used as a smokescreen to confuse and obfuscate facts on the ground before any actual investigation has begun (findings are irrelevant, the SOB will 100% walk if he's ever actually charged). 3/3

The fun part, best scenario the trolley would keep going. Worst scenario where trolley driver is killed, the trolley would keep going! The bestest Phil'o sophorer!!

I've always wondered what the point of the trolley question was... to get people to realize that helping the majority of society means hurting the few (rich)?
Millstone85
It originally has nothing to do with wealth. Also, it is in two parts. For the second part, there is no lever and you have to push someone on the track to stop the trolley before it reaches five people. The point is to see if your answer will change depending on whether the situation involves a remote control or a direct contact with your victim.
julle7589
Also, the point is about active vs. passive choice i.e. is it better to actively kill someone or passively watch as the many others die.
jaecyk10
Then the original question was idiotic. If I could push some random person onto the tracks to stop the trolley, I could just as easily step onto the tracks myself to do it and bear the consequences on my own instead of forcing them on someone else.
Millstone85
That was accounted for... if in a way that did not help take the question seriously. Somehow, you know that your corpulence would be insufficient to stop the trolley whereas the other person's fat ass will do the trick.

Neither did I, you can just google for a meme, and then add Imgur to the end of the search, and you will often get a link to the exact thing you want.
