Not every building with exposed concrete is a brutalist art piece, but there are quite a few I like: habitat 67, the geisel library, I can even get behind the Robin Hood gardens. There are, on the other hand, plenty of ugly, badly designed concrete buildings where the architect just went and said, "It's brutalism. You just don't get it.".
While this is a beautiful poem, it's more about the risks of not actively participating, of not shaping ones society. The fear you speak of, on the other hand, is an integral part of a working relationship between you and your peers. Humans are social animals. To us, social ousting feels a lot like physical pain. Social acceptance brings us a lot of joy. These positive and negative feedbacks correct our behaviour when empathy fails.
