Came to ask, first run and that dark? Darker syrup happens at the end of the run, when more biological players have entered the chat, bacteria mostly. First runs usually produce the light stuff, which I prefer, a more delicate flavor, not so aggressive and burnt maple flavored. Springs are getting weird up here in the NE, the slow ramp up from colder nights and warmer days that syrup production relies on, is being upended by near 80F one day, then snow for a week, repeat, etc. It sucks.
