I have a stupid religious, anti vaxx, aggressively anti abortion male coworker is his 50s who's 45 year old girlfriend got pregnant. The baby has tumors, a hole in its heart and a horrific terminal illness called Edward's Syndrome. The baby has a low chance of being born alive let alone living very long after birth if it does survive and the time its alive will be misery. I couldn't help but to think of the medical cost for all this.
Many people also massively underestimate how much their medical care will be. Even if they have $50k saved, which is more than the average person has for sure, that won't be enough if your bill or bills with ongoing treatment and care exceeds that. That also doesn't include being unable to work and no longer getting a check for the daily normal bills. Most of us couldn't be off work 6 months and be able to comfortably pay the bills. I couldn't.
My partner and I own a house and 2 vehicles. I absolutely still do this. Why waste? I can also recycle it when its cleaned out.
